It’s honestly embarrassing watching so-called “fans” trip over themselves trying to justify their irrational hatred for Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Let’s be real—this isn’t about “historical accuracy” or “gameplay concerns.” It’s the same tired cycle we’ve seen before: a loud minority melting down because the protagonist isn’t another generic white dude.

The game looks absolutely incredible—gorgeous visuals, a rich historical setting, and finally, the stealth-action blend the series was built on. Yasuke being a playable protagonist is a breath of fresh air, and let’s not pretend that the existence of a Black samurai is some unbelievable fantasy when Assassin’s Creed has been stretching history for years. But no, suddenly now people care about accuracy? Give me a break.

Let’s be honest: the real issue here is bigotry. The same people who whined about female leads in Odyssey and Valhalla are back at it again, desperately trying to frame their outrage as a “genuine criticism” when in reality, they just can’t handle a non-white main character. If this was some cookie-cutter European setting with another hooded white guy, we wouldn’t be hearing half this noise.

The game is shaping up to be one of the best Assassin’s Creed entries in years, and the people seething over it are just proving how fragile they really are. Cry harder.

A generic White Dude in Feudal Japan as a Samurai????? How would that be Historically accurate?

How about a Japanese Samurai in Feudal Japan? How about an amazing Ninja, Male character, inspired by a Robin Hood Ninja of Japan?

I looked up a list of legendary ones and found that there was a Robin Hood style Japanese Ninja "Ishikawa Goemon".

Yasuke was a retainer. Not a Samurai. It is incredibly bizzarre that Ishikawa's amazing life story was passed over for a retainer that left Japan after something like 6 months?

Every single genuine criticism of Yasuke was thrown out the window while it was being labelled as "Bigotry". UBI literally said they are making this game as historically accurate as possible by consulting "Experts" who then turned out to be a fraud and some person who was interested in monks loving boys or something.

Then they scrapped the whole historical accuracy after being called out on it and then blamed the people criticising them, calling them bigots and racists. On top of that their inaccuracies ranged from wrong buildings, disrespecting culture and shrines like the torii gate, desecrating shrines, female sumo wrestler, non binary love interests for yasuke for some reason.

Its almost like they forgot that he was a foreigner, People who are calling this the "Best AC game" really mean to say that this is the best rpg like game they have played set in the AC universe, because none of this nonsense since origins has anything to do with AC. Ill even go as far as to set the cut off at AC4, thats literally a pirate game.

The method of Goemon being boiled alive while holding his son over his head is referenced and reinterpreted visually in One Piece Chapter 971, with Kozuki Oden holding his nine retainers over his head with a wooden platform.

That's why it sounded familiar. I completely agree. Goemon would have been a better playable character than Yasuke, and he'd have a more interesting story.

This game is a disappointment because of the inaccuracies, if you actually read a damn book and educated yourselves, you would know that there were actually NO Japanese people around at that time, the island consisted of approx 89% black people, the remaining were Chinese and Korean. Yet this game only has one black person? ONE? What an insult to history. UBI really dug their own grave for Asian-washing history.
