Ubisoft employees are terrified
This is so sad to see.

https://insider-gaming.com/ubisoft-employees-worried-about-layoffs-after-tencent-deal/

I hope all the talented developers at Ubisoft either retain their employment or get work elsewhere.
They don’t deserve to be treated this way by incompetent management.

talented developers at Ubisoft left a while ago....

I would say it differs by the role in dev teams - judging just from playing Ubi games (and watching ACS gameplay as I have not purchased that one) the people taking care of the 'walking simulator' part of the player experience, i.e. world (landscape/architecture) design, engine, visuals etc. still maintain very good quality. The problems start to appear in both design and implementation of game mechanics - stealth, combat etc. And what has been going steadily down the hill since at least Odyssey is writing - character building, dialogues and even whole plot lines/archs.

Thus I hope the talented devs creating wonderful worlds remain in the gaming business no matter if in Ubi or elsewhere and as for the Ubi writers - I wish tham no harm I just hope they will work on something I have no interest in.

They are terrified because they have no skills and don't belong in the gaming industry. They got exposed and rightfully so.
This is a prime example of why it's become embarrassing to be a gamer on the internet. : \

When I look back, some of my favourite games n the OG Xbox were Ubisoft games.
Splinter Cell, Sands of Time, XIII, Far Cry etc… were all awesome and totally unique.
My last Ubisoft game was BG&E 20th Anniversary. My last AssCred game was Black Flag. I just couldn’t take the bloat, grind and repetition anymore. Which is really sad because the various time and location settings of the series really interest me; I just wish they were standalone games and not part of the overall AssCred franchise. The franchise mentality combined with the bloat and grind just killed my interest in their games.

Maybe that’s what they hope this Tencent deal will help them get back to; smaller games with reasonable budgets and reasonable expectations for success.
I can understand the problem. I basically checked out from Ubisoft games the first time around the time when AC3 got released. I gave it a try back then and within the first couple of hours I simply got bored of the game. I didn't even make it to the part where Connor got to that base of his. This also resulted in me skipping basically all AC that followed afterwards. The same goes for Far Cry and other Ubisoft games. I played Anno 1404 when it got released but skipped all follow up Anno games until I gave 1800 a chance (and was not very fond of that one btw.).

About 2 years ago I actually went back to the AC series and started to play through them in Order (1, 2, Brotherhood, Revelations, 3, 4, Unity, Syndicate). I completed the main story lines in all of them up to Syndicate and if you ever consider taking another look at AC then Syndicate might still be considered good as it was the last one which was basically a true AC game. It already had some RPG elements in it but in terms of combat, general gameplay and writing it was still fun. Also moving around the city was pretty fast. I think they really dropped the ball when they completely changed the formula in Origins and stuck with that.

Anyway Ubisoft has some general issues with the design of their games where they are lacking good new ideas. Let's be honest here. What does ACS actually add to the franchise? Riding around on a horse? Been there, done that. Having two main characters? See Syndicate (and done better there). Having a base of operations? Has been done multiple times before as well. Side activities? Had tons of those (done better as well) in earlier entries.

When I look at people praising ACS every single time it's either about environments looking good (water, trees and whatever else they see) where I still think Black Flag with its environments is at the top of the AC franchise. Or some might praise stuff they can destroy (cutting bamboo). How are they supposed to be selling points for a game?

I keep flirting with the idea of getting Outlaws since I’m a big fan of Star Wars and stealth games. I heard that much of the bloat and grind have been stripped out but when Ubisoft updated the game to make stealth optional i raised an eyebrow be in ly experience, games with optional stealth tend not be be very good stealth games.

AC Syndicate has mostly optional stealth sections. Still it's pretty good in my opinion.

For example there factories that are intended to be liberated by your character and you can do it either guns blazing killing everything in open combat or you could go in sneakily and dispose of everyone without any of the bad guys even noticing you are there. Managed to do some of them that way.

And AC Syndicate was actually the first one that had actual true stealth mechanics in the series.

I'm in the same boat. I love Star Wars more than anything it could ever do (to borrow a line from good Star Wars), but Outlaws looked very mid. I love the idea of an open-world outer rim scum & villainy type Star Wars game; that's basically my dream game, but boy did Outlaws make that look shallow and boring.
Make gaming great again.
Game is great success, let's.....LAYOFF!

-Ubisoft, most probably

I might try it for a couple of hrs under the Steam refund safely net the next time the game goes on sale.

That one has coop as well, doesn’t it? I do like a good coop game.🙂

Exactly. So many good and talented people working at Ubisoft caught up in events beyond their control.

I think it does but I'm not really a fan of co-op so I'm not really sure. I know I tried it either in Unity or Syndicate but hated it and never gave it another go. I've just played these games for the single player aspect.

Right? Imagine actually playing damage control over these failed developers with zero talent.
they are going to layoff the blue hair activist like bioware did .

Well who would have thought when you diversify your workforce with inexperienced people who don't like games nor know how to make them that this would happen?Games that ultimately appeal to a tiny % of the market.

Make Naoe super hot with skimpy outfits, have a stoic but masculine Japanese guy as the male protagonist and you just got a best selling game, your welcome Ubisoft can i get my check in the mail?

You want growth in the market, not just appealing to teenage basement dwellers.
Part of the ship part of the crew. The current dev team all have their hands dirty. They should start fresh with a new team and management.
