Ubisoft and Tencent have Partnered Up
So remember all those people claiming Tencent was going to BUY Ubisoft?

Turns out, that's not happening~

Ubisoft is forming a new subsidiary company in partnership with Tencent.
The subsidiary is valued at ~$4.3B and includes IPs like Assassin's Creed, Far Cry and Rainbow Six.

Tencent is investing a 25% stake in the company.

So Ubisoft and Tencent have partnered up.

https://www.investing.com/news/stock-market-news/tencent-acquires-25-stake-in-ubisofts-new-gaming-subsidiary-93CH-3952688

This will also help shield those IPs in case anything does happen.
Tencent will be getting royalties for sales, but they're a financial backer/partner.

Sure, 25% stake vom Tencent and they will just let Ubisoft create on bomb after another from the goodness of their heart

I mean if Ubisoft does, Tencent has no say in the matter.
They're literally just a large investor collecting royalties now.

You are literally clueless and coping. To be expected for one of the big ubi defenders. If you genuinely think tencent invested over a billion and have no say, then there is no helping you :cozybethesda:

Well this just shows people who blindly defend AC Shadows have literally no idea what they're talking about or how these things work lol. But more power to you. This is very bad for Ubisoft. If it was a good thing it would of been done a long time ago.

This is tencent setting themselves up to take Ubisofts IPs. This is like Tencent putting collars and leashes around ubisofts beloved Pet. Ubisoft is still allowed to hold the leash, but if they drop the leash again Tencent will take their pet away to their house and Ubisoft goes home alone.

You don't let a company take 25% control of your IPs when you're having great sales. They did this because they're 1.8 Billion in debt with 900 million in reserve. Tencent giving them 1.1 billion takes them out of debt that they depesrately need to cover their 700 million yearly employee cost. It basically gives ubisoft one more breath of air while giving more control to another company.

If Ubisoft flops another game tencent will take the IPs from them. this is all the beginning stages of IP take over. If Ubisoft has great sales from here on out they will survive barely. Not very likely.

You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.
The fact that you wrote ' would of ' speaks volumes.

They literally don't.
It's in the contract.

Maybe they get some say in 2 years, but they'll get "some" say if any as they're not the majority holder.

Do you... understand what that means ?

Or are you just shilling so much you'd agree there is a fire in the house when your pants start to melt ?

makes sense to do a partnership with China after using Real Japanese peoples names from 1600's and real historical places.

It really is just business as usual.
The only ones who lost at all are potentially devs who aren't on the main IP teams if anyone.
Also technically gamers since Guillemot are still in power and hold full say, and they're the only ones who can approve of Tencent having majority if it ever comes to that down the road.
People want to think Tencent is secretly taking over the world through video games. Unfortunately, nothing will convince those people otherwise. I wish they could be convinced otherwise, and spared the stress of paranoia, but caustic media won't release its death grip on their minds, and reasoned Steam comments just don't hit the same way.

Tencent has a pattern of starting with minority investments and gradually increasing its influence. Examples include Riot Games (League of Legends) and Supercell (Clash of Clans), both of which Tencent fully acquired over time. It will happen.
