Incorrect.

This game is not $70 for most people.
30% of sales are in China and the price there is $42
Even in Scandinavian countries the game cost only just above $60

So what you need to look at is gross revenue data that is public. We can´t pull out proper estimations without taking into account all the different regional prices.
When we have the gross revenue, like with steam. You need to take away the 30% cut + 5% taxes.

Then you can start to take away at the overall development cost. So you would need closer to 800m to even break even, in your example, than 500m.

You also can´t attribute all gross revenue from Ubi+ to a singular game, just as Netflix will not attribute all gross revenue to the Crown....(a singular show)
Its a catalogue service, so you split evenly among games..

I tried to be as generous as possible in my estimation:

- I used the highest price per copy possible around the world(?): $70.
- I assumed that 2M out of the 3M "players" were actual copies sold.
- I also assumed that the 1M subscription players were new subscriptions made specifically for Shadows.

And yes, I'm aware my estimation is very optimistic. It can only be worse than what I said.

Anything lower than my generous estimation of 23% of the way to breaking even would make the situation even worse.

Fair enough.
My point was, that many people always assume that its 70 euro for everybody... or even the majority.

Valhalla sold poorly initially? Ubisoft literally stated it had the biggest launch in series history. I swear you guys are getting more and more delusional. lmao

So launch and sales aren't the same thing, are you mentally inept?
Do you understand what INITIALLY means?

If Valhalla started poorly and became the most succesful AC game, then your whole point about Shadows starting poorly is futile. If Valhalla was so succesful after a poor start, then Shadows can do the same. By your own admission poor initial sales don't indicate poor sales overall. Except it's the most succesful Ubi launch on PS5 ever.

The new Snow White movie also made more revenue than the original, like lots of more revenue.
It did however not make a profit, unlike the original....

It isn't invalid at all though, as Valhalla was a pandemic game - that's what fueled those sales.
I cannot wait to come back to these forums in the next few weeks and laugh.

If Valhalla had a special advantage, then it should be taken out of the comparison entirely.

Um, that was released in 1938.

And has also grossed more at the box office over its lifetime than the new one has so far lol

Veilguard sold no more than 1.5m copies in its first 3 months (per EA). Note, "reached 1.5m players".

Shadows has doubled that reach within 1 week, despite a lower peak Steam concurrency. Almost like it's a bigger game on console!

So no, Veilguard didn't sell better at launch.

Also, AC Valhalla was the biggest launch in AC history, and was also it's biggest PC launch ever, as it was also available on EGS and Ubisoft's own store.

I don't know where you're getting your info from, but I'd double check it

Factor in that Odyssey was not on steam day one.

That is false

The fact that you can't even get the facts right, means that no reasonable person should be taking anything else you say seriously.

We don't have stats on what Shadows has sold, neither do you. All Ubisoft is saying is "players" and that's for good reason.

Incorrect.

They said that Day one numbers for Gross revenue was higher for AC:Shadows, compared to Odyssey.

That is not unlikely. Odyssey released 7 years ago and the daily steam userbase (this is just steam alone) is over twice as large now..
Factor in that Odyssey was not on steam day one.

Odyssey did not need as much gross revenue to make a profit either, as AC:Shadows does, as that game had under half the budget of what AC:Shadows have.

Its like trying to argue, that a new Pizza place is a great success, compared to the old burger joint 7 years ago... because they have a larger gross revenue.. but people forget that the staff needs twice as much in wage now, the products cost 300% more to make and then it does not really matter if you have twice the revenue, you will still have less profit or even a loss...

Its the same here..

AC:S at its lowest estimate is 400m.
So a gross revenue (from all sources) on day one for ie. 150m is not really a good result.

As you might have noticed, there are already talks about reconstruction.
Odyssey was absolutely on Steam day 1 lol release date was October 5th, 2018. Guess when it was released on Steam?

Yup, it's hilarious that he thinks people should take him serious when he can't even get the most basic facts correct. Everything he says is based on made up BS including the release dates on Steam.

Dude already got proven wrong on this and he doubled down by trying to say that it wasn't a day 1 release on Steam because of the early access period on October 2nd without realizing that was also available on Steam lol

we know it has sold more than odyssey did on day 1 and seemingly did very well on the playstation digital store
