Buy to find out. God knows this game needs to up it's sales count.
There are genres I don't like.
There are games I don't like.
But since you talk about hating games, I would recommend a completely different hobby.
What a dumb thing to say, but given how much you seem to adore Assassin's Creed I guess I understand your saltiness.
Thanks for the advice, but the thing I dislike about the RPG elements more have to do with how loot driven they are, not the actual choices offered by the game.
The RPG elements have never been something I liked for the Assassin's Creed games, but I feel like it is the most forgiving out of the games as it does allow for guaranteed assassination in the settings and there is also a cannon mode if you don't care to be making pointless choices throughout the game. And trust me, from what I've seen the choices in this game are very pointless.
As for the skill tree, It's nothing I care for but it's fine I guess and allows you to build on the weapons and skills you want to go towards depending on your play style. Naeo and Yasuka do play quite differently thankfully, and though after playing both quite a bit I will say playing as Naeo is more enjoyable as it does fullfill that assassin stealth fantasy, and trust me when I say that if you do get into open combat with her it is a lot less forgiving than if you are to play as Yasuka which is very much a tank and will just ♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥ up.
I went into this game not expecting much, I never liked the direction the new games were going and took a break. So out of curiosity I decided to see where this game was heading. The Assassin's Creed story as i see it is long dead, there is not even a mention of the order or the creed or Templar's 30hrs in. I have no idea if there will be as I continue, but I don't expect it nor do I even really want it considering the story and dialogue will guaranteed be terrible and ♥♥♥♥ it up anyway. But that all being said I have been enjoying my time by rather exploring, using the highest difficulty, turning off the guided mode, using one shot assassinations, and just taking on random quests and missions and taking down castles. I have more fun ignoring the story.
Well, from one line of text without points what makes the one responding it is kind of hard to tell WHAT makes them think that. Oh well, it is may opinion, best game in the series is still AC2, having to search for stuff and do puzzles and having a good story and is more stealthy and a (for that time) good looking map (and (and filled) and humor and fun quests and.... everything that lacks in the games after AC:Black Flag or even better AC:Origins.
It looks like the goals are:
- Have a big map
- make it as empty as possible
- hard to travel from A to B
- have quests make players go from one coast to the other (and mostly go to there where there is no viewpoint near)
- Do not add a lot of fast travel points, or make it dense in one place
- Story is not needed, just make it that players have to search hours to find a target instead
That is how I see Shadows, Valhalla had lots to do in comparison and so made it fun to explore and find stuff to do. The 'mini stories' making a whole were well done.
Shadows is more a devs party with the 'seasonal change' as 'biggest triumph'. At least the Kofuns remind me of AC:Revelations (I think) with the add-on where you explore caves, but with Yasuke it becomes terrible. Naoe is just the right protagonist, she makes the game fun to play with fast combat, stealth, and giving the right Assassin feel. Where Yusake is to brutal and slow, making it unbearable to play with him. It is not a duo like in Syndicate with Evie and Jacob. both good assassins with their own approach on how to handle a quest.
Needless to say, I probably quit playing Shadows just because there is no real fun. Although I like the chemistry between Naoe and Yasuke, but having to see both in cut scenes where it is unlogical that if Naeo has done the quest that Yasuke gets the credits. I know the culture back then puts the man above woman, but maybe they had better let the chosen protagonist just do the talking in those scenes.
