Starfield was also hyped to the moon (no pun intended). Shadows was marketed, but I wouldn't really say there was a lot of hype for it. Not compared to Starfield. Starfield was supposed to be GOTY before it actually launched.
64k is the highest one for an AC game. Beat AC Odyssey which was previously hold the record.
this is what happens when you have activism mixed with revisionist history
thats the hill you want to die on huh
Good games get more players over time, games like shadows will just lose players after the first weekend, just look at the numbers next weekend to see that I am right.
No matter how people spin it, it is a commercial failure and the coming months will further prove it.
Also, look at the numbers of previous Assassins Creed games on Steam. Shadows is at the top. How could these games have done so well whilst having such low Steam concurrent numbers? The mind boggles.
Indeed a lot of things can happen, time will tell.
If the game is on sale in summer then we have the answer.
AC Odyssey sold for over 10 million copies.
If AC Shadows can match that number, it'll be a success.
We've also known since 2019 Ubisoft has stated PC gaming has become Ubisoft's main avenue for sales and it would only grow because steam PC gameing is growing at a faster rate than console gameing.
Hell even Capcom said something similar they predicted PC sales will grow bigger than console sales by 2019 and now look Monster Hunter sold more on PC.
And if you think most PC sales aren't on steam then there not actual full sales there subs or a 20% discount.
1/3 of sales is still significant.
Until you actually know what percentage of Ubisoft sales end up on Steam, using Steam numbers to determine the success of the game is pointless especially where the numbers and comments elsewhere are pointing to a huge success already.

Yeah, but Steam concurrent players, please look over there instead!
They need roughly 7mill full price sales just to break even and there talking 2mill players not sales, a certain game named Vielguard also did this exact same thing they had millions of players but not once mentioned the copys sold and they had a sub fee that was cheaper a bigger launch on steam and if I remember that game didn't do to well.
Just think about it if most PC players aren't on steam that means they went with the cheaper option meaning Ubisoft got significantly less money on the game at launch.
