Best AC game since Black Flag?
How true is that? I know the haters are a loud minority but I'm glad its performing super well

Might pick this up myself since a lot of people are saying its on par with Origins and Black Flag

Word of mouth for me is overwhelmingly positive. I'm still halfway through Valhalla (and have been for years), and I got Origins for free at some point and never played it. I'll get to this on a deep discount, because I'm a hashtag Patient Gamer, but I am very interested.
Black Flags music is 1 million times better, shadows music during bossfights does nothing but to kill the atmosphere completely

gameplay is not comparable since that was completely different in the old AC games

Micro transactions likely will help a ton. Like it did with valhalla. Valhalla made so much because of the DLC ♥♥♥♥.

I dont want ubisoft games to fail, but my god they need to stop having 1000 person teams working on a single game lmao. It just inflates their cost, making it so they have to be more safe and not take many risk. I miss when ubisoft took tons of risk lol. They still take risk some times too, like with rainbow six siege. And origins, but its like 95% playing it safe. And it sucks, since a ton of my favorite games have been older ubisoft games.

It's an assassins creed game where you actually play an assassin, which has been a few games. It's the best Assassin's Creed game in a long time.
Black Flag is so over rated. Take the ship combat out and its just another Assassin's Creed game.

Might be able to discuss the content of the game or even other games in the series beyond the controversies^^

No, I would not. I dont consider this a good AC-game. I know people have said that about both Origins & Odyssey, which I dont completly agree with, but Shadows takes it a step further.

Im gonna rant a little bit about the story in broad terms

It has all to do with the plot & the writing. The modern day, brotherhood & the templars are completly absent as well as the ISU. Its the glue that holds the franchise togheter and they are simply not here. It doesnt even try to bring in the iconography ala Unity where the brotherhood is present but in practice irrelevant for the story.
I do not care for the iconography per say, I dont care if they have a hood or not or even if they are an actual member. I care if the actual AC-elements has an impact in the story, and even origins/odyssey has that way more than shadows

For some reason Ubi seem absolutly terrified of diving into the templar or brotherhood. So many games with them and the brotherhood are often useless and the templars are just the bad guys (in rouge it was just reverse roles, still chasing what you considered bad guys just the same).

Its almost like those ingame fake-promotions they had for Black Flag/Rouge.

Black Flags problems are the huge amount of trailing missions, and some other mission designs of its time. The combat on foot was also a bit dated for its time, still cinematic. Im however praising the story of Black Flag because the brotherhood is crucial to Edwards journey, despite him not being a member. The same can not be said for most games in the series

Gameplay-wise I think its great. Atleast with Naoe. I like the combat, sneaking around and the parkour. What im missing here is SOCIAL STEALTH. It went away in Origins/Odssey, was brought back in Valhalla/mirage and now its gone again. Yasuke get a pass for that unit dont do stealth anyway, but for Naoe it needs to be there. People, this is a core-mechanic!

Black flag was just a unique game.

Origins turned the game into an rpg.

Then odyssey just fleshed out origins style a little better.

Valhalla I feel could’ve been more enjoyable if they downsized the map a bit.

Like it takes you ages even on horse to get anywhere if you haven’t been there and loading screens are not only boring but jut feel like a slightly shorter means of getting places through fast travel.

There was no reason for the maps to be this big when its mostly wilderness I swear all the hours I put into playing that game was just me trying to get to places I needed to be and not actually fights, stealth or story.

Now I’m not gonna be overly critical of shadows gameplay I haven’t played it I’ve only seen others play it.

But right now it seems to many people are having issues with stability and gameplay.

But that’s expected in the first week.

I agree. I can see in some cases what they are going for but it either doesnt fit or is just plain bad. Also the AC-theme is iconic, I dont think I have actually even heard it or a revamped version of it (since even the older games differed a bit from each game).

Black Flag was 99.99/100

Assassins maybe a Samurai Shadows is 3/100.

Everything about the game is flat and soulless especially the story. While Black Flag has a genuine story and characters with sensible motives and you feel immersed in the story. While in Shadows everything feels faked and filler content. You cannot even compare these 2 games unless of course you are a disgenuine and phoney person yourself..

The gameplay isn't really bad, However, Facial animations, diologs are horrible, And story is full of Misinformation. Oh and environment is designed nice, But that is a common thing among Ubisoft games.
So In summary The average gameplay is eh, Story Sucks, And the most strongest part is the environment.

.

Im super-close to create a thread about this but it will just be buried under "game just has X amount of players right now" so nah

Black Flag feels unique because that is the game beside the first that actual explores the politics & philosophy of the factions. That for once actually does something as well as explores the themes of the franchise instead of just letting the factions be window-dressing.

So what I am practically saying the game needed MORE politics.

In every other game beside the first and black flag you have the typical heros journey to the letter (which sometimes can work), you kill templars because they are the bad guys. Bad guys that have infiltrateted the highest politic power in the country the game takes place.
Bad guys that killed Ezios family-members
Bad guys that killed Connors family-members
Bad guys that killed Arno's family-member
Bad guys that killed Bayeks family-member
Bad guys that killed Kassandras family-member
Bad guys that killed Naoe's family-member

After that you are freelancing for a personal revenge, completly devoid of any of the actual creed-stuff. Altair & Basim are the only that actually gets sanctioned missions in line with the actual AC-themes

Seeing a pattern here?
Once or maybe twice, sure, then im out of excuses. Connor. And dont think I go soft on Ezio's game, especially not Revelations.

The only difference with odyssey & origins is the lack of iconography with the hood & blade, otherwise the story is the same. The brotherhood has way more screen-time in Black Flag than even Unity where they have a working bureau as well as edward not even being a member yet they are key to his story & change as a character.

THAT is why it feels unique.

Now why am I ranting about these things now? Because there is not even a try to do something with the story. I enjoy the game and sneaking around but the writing.....jeez
