You need to take games with own launchers during the release phase as reference. The player count is bad but your examples make 0 sense.
Dwane Dibbley 3 月 22 日 上午 3:45
Context - how many of those games are released on its own launcher with its unique ecosystem and cheaper than on steam?

Ubisoft is doomed. kind of sad as over the years they have created amazing games. I really don't understand what is happening all over the gaming market. most big studios only create gen z brain rot games that are hugely unsuccessful and they still continue to release them until they are broke.

I just realized something. SW is truly a dead franchise.

AC: Valhalla, 15k peak on steam, highest grossing title in the franchise, earning over 1 billion in revenue, what's your point?

The majority don't play AC games on steam, that's just a fact.

AC games have always sold better on Ubisofts own store and consoles.
Would u like to know why most ppl didn't play AC games on steam? Shall we think hard about it? Maybe because ubisoft never used to release games on steam at launch in the past? Maybe by the time it hit steam usually 1-2 years later most ppl had moved on? Except now that it is on steam on launch it's probably not the same situation? Hmmmmmm?

Like it or not steam is THE most popular store front by FAR on PC. Epic games couldn't even compete with steam with literally giving games away. The fact is no one bought this game. That's just a fact.

Origins and odyssey launched same day on steam, nice try though. The only AC title that didn't was Valhalla. You have no argument.

You keep moving the goalpost.

You said they didn't release AC titles day 1 on steam, they did.

Now you're screeching "waah players not sales waaaah"

Oh it's also the most popular AC title on steam ever now. Funny that. What are you gonna seethe about next?

Shadow's peak player count is over 1,000,000 and counting. Try again.

No it isn't, Ubisoft saying so is not evidence of anything.

There is no goalpost to move, saying 2 million PLAYERS is a blatant way to deceive shareholders into believing that means sales, it's on a subscription service, so if most of the players are playing it through the subscription service they'll need to make 3x the amount needed from actual game sales to make up for it. We'll see who's "seething" when Ubislop shutters and sells its IPs to Tencent.

I'm pretty sure shareholders know what players and sales mean. Usually sales are higher than players because not everyone who has bought the game has yet played it. That's always the case. On the other hand there's the subscription service, At the end, nobody knows how these effects add up. One word on the subscription though. There will always be players who don't cancel after a month because they're not sure if they're done, then they'll try out another game, maybe a new FarCry, some will subscribe again for the DLC and last but not least: some customers will simply forget to cancel. All subscription services count on that.

Long story short, many subscribers will end up paying the same or more in comparison to buying the game. There are reasons why companies love these subscription services so much.

You're just blatantly wrong that sales are always higher than players, especially when you have companies like Ubisoft who hand out keys like candy to people they know will speak well of their product. They haven't proven anything and that's why their stock continues to plummet despite people parroting their X account posts as gospel. Steam is the largest storefront in the PC space, an undebatable fact. Monster Hunter has also always been a console game primarily and that had a release day concurrent player count of 1,384,608 meanwhile AC Shadows can't break 100k. GGG which makes Path of Exile, which in and of itself is relatively niche, had 500k concurrent players on release of its sequel. You mean to tell me a company with ONE other game, compared to Ubisofts how many games and IPs can't break 100k? Can't beat an indie companies 500k? Palworld and Black Myth Wukong were from devs with NO history whatsoever and Ubislop can't beat those?

AC Shadows is a failure by all metrics, the IPs will be sold and that will be the end of Ubisoft. The shareholders see it, anyone with the ability to look at the numbers objectively can see it. It's over.

no, they literally do not understand it.

- the keys they give to reviewers are irrelevant. For that to matter htey'd have to hand out tens of thousands of keys, which I don't believe until proven otherwise. We're talking about 2 million players here. Review keys don't matter here, at all.

- Steam might be the largest platform on PC on general, but for AC, it's not that relevant. Valhalla was the most succesful AC title and it wasn't even available until two years after the release. Steam is an extra for AC Shadows. It's an extra they need given their situation, but the bread and butter is on consoles, Ubisoft Store and Ubsoft Plus.

- Comparisons to other games don't matter. These are titles that rely heavily on Steam and AC doesn't.

- discussions about Ubisoft selling IPs were started before the launch of the game. Realistcally, Shadows can't make up all the failures on it's own. Ubisoft may be in trouble, but if they have to sell IPs, it's not because of Shadows.

I won't be seething because I honestly don't care either way, I'm enjoying the game, I'm getting my moneys worth, where-as you're on a forum for a game you don't even own, relentlessly posting about how bad it is. Get a life dude, seriously.

Of course you have an anime avatar, living up to the stereotype.
