Why AC Shadows should absolutely win GOTY
Assassin's Creed: Shadows stands as a compelling candidate for Game of the Year, offering a multifaceted experience that excels in several key areas:

1. Immersive Historical Setting and Narrative Depth

Set in 16th-century Japan during the Azuchi-Momoyama period, Shadows introduces players to two distinct protagonists: Naoe Fujibayashi, a kunoichi from the Iga clan, and Yasuke, an African samurai inspired by the historical figure of the same name. The game intricately weaves their personal stories against the backdrop of significant historical events, exploring themes of revenge, identity, and cultural integration. This dual-character approach enriches the narrative, providing diverse perspectives and a profound connection to the game's world.

2. Visual Excellence and Authentic World-Building

Shadows is lauded for its breathtaking depiction of feudal Japan, with meticulous attention to landscapes, architecture, and seasonal changes. The game's environments—from serene shrines to bustling castle towns—are crafted with such detail that they offer an unparalleled visual experience, drawing players into a living, breathing world.

3. Refined Combat and Stealth Mechanics

The game offers two distinct gameplay styles: Yasuke's combat emphasizes strength and skill, while Naoe's approach focuses on agility and stealth. This duality allows players to tailor their strategies, enhancing engagement and replayability. The combat system has been praised for its depth and fluidity, marking a significant improvement within the series.

4. Cultural Enrichment and Side Activities

Beyond its central narrative, Shadows immerses players in Japanese culture through various side activities, such as participating in tea ceremonies, petting animals, and painting wildlife. These elements add layers of authenticity and tranquility to the gameplay, offering a balanced experience that juxtaposes action with moments of reflection.

5. Commercial Success and Player Reception

The game's commercial performance underscores its impact, with Ubisoft reporting over a million players on launch day. This robust engagement reflects both the franchise's enduring appeal and the game's quality.

In conclusion, Assassin's Creed: Shadows distinguishes itself through its rich storytelling, stunning visuals, refined mechanics, cultural depth, and strong market performance, making it a deserving contender for Game of the Year.

You can pet Akita puppies, that alone is a GOTY material.
KCD 2 and AC: Shadows are my GOTY contenders. And we're still in the first quarter!

Sooo... Tesshu and Ayame from Tenchu. A 20 year old game.

You also forgot
6. Repetitive Ubisoft Formula - Same game, different skin. Fanboys will love it.
7. Modern (Money Milking) Gaming - Incorporating a battle pass and microtransactions into a full-priced single player game.

There's no chance AC Shadows could get game of the year. It's much more polished than the recent titles but it isn't as good. From exploration to combat and story, it just isn't on par with it's predecessors. There are so many better games coming than this. Standards are low right now because of the dry last couple years and not receiving any real big game releases in 2024 with most of them flopping. Now that Ghost of Yotei was announced to have a female protagonist through, Shadows might actually be able to outdo it.

I could make ChatGPT make a story about AC:S as well.

In the tumultuous era of the Sengoku period, Japan was engulfed in chaos as rival warlords vied for power. Amidst this turmoil, Yasuke, a towering African samurai serving under the formidable Oda Nobunaga, found himself at the center of a conspiracy that threatened to plunge the nation into darkness.

As whispers of betrayal echoed through the halls of Nobunaga’s castle, Yasuke discovered that a faction known as the Shinbakufu was plotting to assassinate his lord and seize control of Japan. With his keen intellect and unmatched combat prowess, Yasuke embarked on a perilous quest to uncover the truth behind this sinister plot.

Utilizing his unique position as both an outsider and a trusted warrior, Yasuke infiltrated enemy camps disguised as a common soldier. He gathered crucial intelligence about the Shinbakufu’s plans, learning that they intended to strike during a grand festival meant to unite various clans under Nobunaga’s banner.

With time running out, Yasuke raced against the clock to warn Nobunaga. He fought through waves of enemies using his katana and kanabō warclub, showcasing his strength and skill. Upon reaching Nobunaga just moments before the assassination attempt was set to unfold, he revealed the treachery that lay ahead.

Together with Nobunaga and his loyal allies, Yasuke devised a counter-strategy. During the festival, as nobles gathered in celebration, Yasuke led a surprise counterattack against the Shinbakufu operatives. His bravery inspired others to join him in defending their homeland.

The battle raged fiercely; however, with Yasuke at the forefront, wielding his weapons with unmatched ferocity and determination, they turned the tide against their foes. The Shinbakufu were defeated, their leaders captured or slain.

In recognition of his valor and loyalty, Nobunaga honored Yasuke not only as a samurai but also as a symbol of unity between cultures in Japan. With peace restored for now, Yasuke continued to serve alongside Nobunaga, forever etched in history as the savior who thwarted darkness from consuming Japan.

While ChatGPT is a powerful language model capable of generating human-like text, there are several reasons why it may not be the ideal tool for summarizing the plotline of the video game "Assassin's Creed: Shadows":

1. Potential for Inaccurate or Outdated Information

ChatGPT's responses are based on patterns in data up to its last training cut-off and any integrated real-time data. However, if the model's information is not up-to-date or lacks specific details about "Assassin's Creed: Shadows," it may produce summaries that are inaccurate or outdated. Users have reported instances where ChatGPT provided incorrect summaries for media content, leading to confusion.

2. Lack of Nuanced Understanding

Video game narratives, especially in the "Assassin's Creed" series, are rich with intricate plots, character developments, and historical contexts. ChatGPT might not fully capture these nuances, resulting in oversimplified summaries that miss critical themes or character motivations. For example, "Assassin's Creed: Shadows" features complex characters like Naoe, a shinobi assassin, whose personal journey and cultural backdrop are integral to the story.

3. Inability to Convey Interactive Elements

Unlike traditional media, video games are interactive, and the player's choices can significantly influence the storyline. ChatGPT may not effectively convey how these interactive elements impact the narrative, leading to summaries that don't accurately reflect the player's experience.

4. Dependence on External Sources

ChatGPT's ability to summarize specific content relies on the availability and accuracy of external data. If comprehensive and reliable plot details of "Assassin's Creed: Shadows" are not accessible or integrated into its data, ChatGPT's summary may be incomplete or erroneous.

5. Risk of Spoilers

Automated summaries might inadvertently reveal major plot points or spoilers without appropriate warnings, potentially diminishing the gaming experience for individuals who prefer to discover the story organically.

Conclusion

While ChatGPT can provide general overviews, for detailed and accurate plot summaries of "Assassin's Creed: Shadows," it's advisable to consult official sources, game reviews, or dedicated fan communities that offer in-depth analyses and discussions.

That is not the story of AC:S it is a new story.... that is the point.. this was the AI making up a story.. just like the OP asked it to tell why its a GOTY.....

The entire point is to showcase, that it is unrelieable, biased and downright problematic to use in many situations.. I have students whom think they can get ChatGPT to give them information about subjects and even write stuff for them....

Its so very easy to spot.

Well thank you very much for your story. I feel quite dumb now having wasted so much time analysing and writing out reasons why it would be bad to use an AI to summarise AC: Shadow's plot.

I hope your students do better in the future cause that sounds a bit lazy if you don't mind me sharing my opinion on the matter.
