these games are made to be played on a controller - do it - be immersed and forget about pushing your mouse around the table and holding W and all that BS....
With K+M rebind is mandatory, for any single game in fact, but it's here and mostly full with one exception but no big deal, the problem is more too many commands, but unlike Valhalla and like Odyssey, the game allows bind a same key on multiple commands, but it's up to player to find cases that could work fine, and alas it's different with Naoe and Yasuke.
I would say that like all Ubisoft games I played the work on Mouse+Keyboard is overall very good. But also specifically for Shadows, it seems auto lock and auto aim options done for gamepads (which say a lot on what is gamepad play, sigh), are perhaps very similar with M+K unlike in other Ubi games I played, bizarre but can be helpfull for the specific combats of Shadows... That I still failed achieve enjoy.
Same for GoT, Horizon and other games
Kinda the point of playing on PC is using KM
Controllers only became a thing on PC with the migration of console players.
Controllers were always seen (and are) vastly inferior to using K M
I prefer a controller in AC games, the movement is so much better especially with a horse but even on foot you have dynamic control of your speed that you just can't get with a 1 bit digital control found with a keyboard.
Here is a couple of example from Odyssey and Origins (I haven't recorded any Shadows gameplay yet). It's hard to pull this off on a keyboard

That is until ACS that changed the melee combats design bases/spirit to make it more console like. If you never tried and learn use such melee combat without lock nor auto aim then you have no clue.
EDIT:
Another potential problem of gamepads would be shooting, which is rather different too without lock nor auto aim, but I can't say I learned enjoy it with K+M in any AC RPG.
I have roll on mouse wheel (click) and parry on right mouse button. Thus two most important keys always have a finger resting on them. It's just a matter of configuring the controls to your liking.
