😒 Anti-wokes are being cringey, as always.
I don't like dramatic people who call everyone bigots or poorly written stories like Concord or Dragon Age Veilguard (the Emilia Perez of video games). But that's not the case in Assassin's Creed Shadows. The simple PRESENCE of black, female and gay people is "woke"? I think anti-wokes don't even do some research before hating something.

Yasuke is real but little is known about him, so that makes him a cool protagonist choice. About female warriors, they were called onna-musha, not as numerous as male warriors of course, but they existed and those born in samurai families always trained naginata (Japanese spear) and were called bikkishimi, if I remember well. And gay samurai existed, the relationship between master and disciple sometimes involved sex, just like in Ancient Greece and Rome. On the channel Let's Ask Shogo, the Japanese culture teacher Shogo gives more details about these and much more.

I'm not saying or expect the game to be perfect. But if your only source of information is some youtuber who can't make audience scores without polemics, you should rethink what kind of channel you watch.

Anti-wokes think they're normal. I don't see most people addicted to being angry. OP even said he doesn't like Concord or Dragon Age 4, but that's not enough to them. You need to hate everything that doesn't concern you or that you don't understand, if not you're "WOOOOKE!!!!!!"... I prefer to be happy.

The book in question was published in 1998 so quite some time ago already, how long exactly you’d like it to be lol

I'd like it to be accurately presented, 1998 is 27 years ago and even then there were people in academia making waves by doing strange things.

Lets be clear here, I respect people competent in STEM -- I question anything else a whole lot more.

History and culture isn’t STEM (and thank God for that lol)

No disagreement there.

He’s a fake cluster of pixels on my screen man. It ain’t that deep lmfao.

I just play the game without theory crafting why I should hate it because it has a thing I can decide I’m mad about.

Then enjoy your product and stop claiming people are racist for not liking it, as you were very blatantly trying to insinuate.

Many, many people of all walks of life have a reason to find Shadows distasteful.

Distasteful? Meanwhile, all the tentacle anime from Japan gets a pass, right? lmao

Generally all those claims about Ubisoft disrespecting and destroying Japanese history are kinda ridiculous.

I’ve seen someone saying that it’s distasteful how Ubisoft is terrible for disrespecting Oda Nobunaga (im not sure how as from what I’ve seen he’s depicted as noble and honourable leader) When Onimusha, a game series which depicts Oda Nobunaga as an resurrected demon lord who wants to take over Japan. Was extremely popular in Japan

Yep. Aren't double standards fun?

I remember seeing that in Onimusha, can confirm what you're saying. I'm sure literally nobody in Japan was offended with this fake outrage.

The samurai did not have man sex with their lords. That is dumb, made-up, 21st century revisionist history.

And in the .00001% of the time it MAY have happened, it was kept a secret to the highest ability because people knew the consequences.

You are completely wrong, I’m sure you have some sources to back up your claims?

Because literature of Edo Period (post Sengoku era) often depicted Oda Nobunaga and his young retainer Ranmaru Mori as being lovers
You know they thought gay people were possessed by demons back then, right? To think that any part of being gay was accepted in any form or fashion back then is absurd.

Anything you read about it today is some mental gymnastics that people of the last 20 years have jumped through to make it sound like two men walking through a garden together were also having gay sex.

Or, it's 100% shamelessly re-written.

Ever heard the phrase "lost in translation"?

Y'all live in an alternate reality, I swear.

That's called whataboutism.

I actually find loli and what have you utterly vile and would outlaw it. I enjoy anime, but avoid fandoms related to it because of people into that stuff that are not only accepted but celebrated.

You can enjoy aspects of culture while disparaging others, and while I do enjoy anime and manga my interests are more historical than weeb. I draw a line in many respects, please don't try painting me with that brush.

In Japan? Aren’t you confusing it with Europe, even in Europe it wasn’t fully adhered too.

Or do you have any sources to back it up? I provided ones which say otherwise.

It's called recognizing double standards. Japan puts out TONS of horrible media. They get a pass. They even have people praising Sakurai for encouraging Japanese devs "not to Americanize games." They convinced people outside Japan to have Japanese national pride, it's quite rich.

Ubisoft makes one game, people lose their minds. This is a very obvious double standard. If you want to disparage Ubisoft, better put your money where your mouth is and find something good they are doing too, instead of just demonizing them over a single character in a video game.

You did nothing but defend Ubisoft while ignoring my statements after making a logical fallacy.

I'm not going to argue the rest, you focused on me and my statements so I'll respond in kind. I've detailed my reasons for thinking the game is poor, you didn't do a damn thing to address any of it -- you assumed an argument and tried to hit me with it. Stop creating magical arguments to have with me because I've had an actually balanced position on the subject.

I'm not playing that game, period. Grow up.

This whole woke vs anti woke narrative is cringe as ♄♄♄♄.
Divide and conquer at work.

Of course, by defending a double standard, that puts your side of the argument in a bit of a paradox, so withdrawing is the best thing to do. You're right.
