Keyboard controls
I can't believe nobody 've mentioned despicable keyboard controls. In original games it was perfect. Why change it? It would be nice to have classic layout in full as an option. Or am I the only one to being annoyed?

It's an option - you can change them.

No, I can't. i can set it close enough, but no pie.

I am talking about few things:
1. In original game you hit space button - you jump forward because you have an up button for jumping upward, (sometimes it's getting very annoying when i have to make a hard jump and instead of jumping I'm seeing Abe's animation of freightened being too close to a cliff) nowadays space just doubles the up button...
2. ...and speaking of which, the up button now is just for jumping, when I could use it for entering doors, getting grenades, getting directions. Now when I come close to those objects I am just jumping and running around thinking that maybe I am not close enough due force of habit.
3. Overcomlicated (compared to the original) throwing system.

I'm very familiar with Abe's Oddysee (being a long-term, 15 year fan) and this also confused me for a short time, but allow yourself to get used to N'n'T's controls and you'll soon quickly realise why they did them differently - It makes much more sense.

The function of "Up", for example: A key used for movement shouldn't also be a context sensitive action button.

Allowing to manually aim throwable objects with the mouse is much easier than guessing where the object is going to go by pressing an arrow key, especially considering N'n'T's level layout isn't based on a grid, unlike AO's.

I suggest you try to adapt to it if you can. Remember: N'n'T isn't the same game, and behaves a bit differently.

Maybe, especially about the aiming, but an option deffinetely would be nice.

As for (1), there is an option "sideways hop" which activates "forward jumping". But I totally agree with (2) and (3).

Also, I absolutely don't understand why the "default" keyboard layout now is this awful WASD. I think almost everyone who played the original game immediately changed controls to classic up-down-left-right etc. Something like this: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=399179408
Yes, this is an option, and we can freely change it, but I really don't understand why "classic" players are FORCED to do this. Ok, let the "default" be default, but why there is no any "classic" option?..

Exactly!

Thanks for "sideways hop" thing.

It's probably because WASD has become the standard movement these days. OWI, I imagine, don't want to alienate new players or those used to the new control schemes and it's better if players, who much prefer the old movement, are the ones to make the changes. They're going to generally be more tolerant and are going to be the type of people who take the time to change deafults - rather than any new players.

However, I do think there needs to be a way to make the number pad on your keyboard Gamespeak without messing up classic movement controls. I always used the number keys at the top of my keyboard but I imagine many people didn't and it became problematic when I tried it out.

Yeah, first thing I did without even playing the game was to check the controls and change them. One thing I was afraid of is that the other half of the Gamespeak seems to be only useable if you're pressing a key, but as it turns out, they are already mapped to the 5-8 keys by default. Which is weird, as it's not in the controls menu, but still a nice classic thing.

And even after going through the whole game and doing Alf's Rescue, I could just not get used to UP not being more than just jump. It's hard to overwrite 15 years long habits.

Cool! I didn't notice that. Thanks. :)
So, we have nearly "classic" gameplay except for (2) and (3), mentioned by Cors...
