FSX-SE installation
I have reinstalled FSX-se due to a re-installation of win 10 because of a failed hard drive. However the paths for FSX-SE differ from the old to the new. Can I merge the fsx files from the old to the new?

Everything under the FSX folder is the same so yes. I did so, I had made changes to several default aircraft "aircraft.cfg", panel.cfg files etc. Overwriting the defaults after a re-install under the same circumstances brought back my changes to the aircraft (those files) for example.

But fsx.cfg, exe.xml and dll.xml are stored per user under the users appdata\roaming\microsoft\fsx folder and scenery.cfg is stored under c:\programdata\microsoft\fsx. It's best NOT to restore those from your old system. Best to re-add any add-ons that make entries to those files to add their items to the menu bar by re-running their installers, but if your sure that the add-ons folders are restored you can restore exe.xml and dll.xml from backup too. And for merged add-on scenery folders that don't exist in the new systems scenery library, re-add to scenery.cfg through the scenery library interface now that the folders are restored, you can re-add them to through the library scenery interface. Don't forget the scenery library interface bug when you do (click in the white space before clicking OK).

Very helpful, many thanks. Will get on to it. Its time to be a bit selective. I have many addons some of which I seldom use. Its an opportunity to clean up the system.
