FSX Not Launching
When I click launch, it launches the crashes right away. Why is this a problem? I've used this game before but I uninstalled steam a while back and now that I reinstalled it it launches the little logo in the middle of my desktop as if it is loading and then just exits out of the game.

If you on Windows 10, two things you must do:

Run fsx.exe as administrator (no matter which OS)
Run in Windows 7 compatibility mode.

If you don't know how, type "how to .....etc." in your search engine to find out.

Nice photograph!

Try running through this full re-install procedure and see if that makes the crucial difference:

I agree with the first point but you don't need to run in W7 compatibility mode. I've been successfully running it in Windows 10 since the OS was released without using compatibility mode.

Is that what you have done?

No. Just installed the OS (Windows 10 64bit), installed FSX:SE and it worked without any further tweaking. Definitely not in compatibility mode and no secret settings.

Guess you must have been either lucky or you have got exactly the right hardware.

Just a pity that your profile doesn't tell us a little more about you.

I started out running with no compatibility applied for months and then, all of a sudden, compatibility messages started appearing.

Never saw that happen with Windows 7.

Now I'm back to where I was before.

Close steam and run ad administrator, then go to steam>steamspps>common>fsx and run fsx.exe as administrator also. Hope this works!
Windows 11, new Dell 8960. Trying to get FSX-SE to start. Worked fine on my Windows 10 desktop and also works on my Windows 10 laptop. Done all those steps. Won't play directly from fsx.exe either. Running Direct X 12. Shouldn't that cover DX9 as well? Tried the compatibility troubleshooter. No help. I had Steam on compatibility, but Steam startup message says to remove the compatibility via steam.exe properties. Other Steam applications work fine, such as FS-2000, War Thunder, DCS. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.
Oh yeah, the Splash screen comes up in FSX:SE, but then quickly goes away and the Start button goes back to green. No messages.

Nope... You need to install all the dependencies of which DX9 is one of them.
JJ FSX has written up a nice guide.
