Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition

Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition

Side-by-Side Error, Help?
"The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail". Does anyone have a fix for this? Thanks in advance!

Yeah.
Read the app event log to see what failed.
Nice support lol. "Activation context generation failed" is what it's saying. I'm just looking to get some help with anyone who may have had this problem before :)

From another post:

Error message “The Application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect."

Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition will display this error message when it cannot access the Microsoft visual C++ library. To fix the issue please download the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x86) and Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x64) which can be found here:

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=3387
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=21254

Once downloaded please restart your computer and launch Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition like normal.

Unfortunately, these downloads are no longer available on that site.

Well... Raise a support request with Microsoft, or (and just guessing here), Google I hear is an excellent search engine, and probably Microsoft Downloads also includes the ability to search for Microsoft downloads...

But the kicker is, logically it would make no sense to have a game installer that doesn't include the redistributables needed to install the game.

And infact they are included.

<path to>\Steam\SteamApps\common\Steamworks Shared\_CommonRedist\vcredist

Good luck

I'm jumping in on someone elses issue. LOL. I tried running both the x86 and x64 installers in the steamworks shared vcredist and then restarting my pc but fsx still has the same error
Uninstalled both steam and FSX with no improvements
Also reinstalled both!

So has anyone figured out why the side by side configuration message appears or how to fix it bc I've Uninstalled and reinstall several times with no luck

Side by Side is typically a visual C++ runtime error.

In your,
~\Steam\SteamApps\common\Steamworks Shared\_CommonRedist\vcredist\

there will be a collection of year folders each containing visual C++ runtime installers to be installed, where you'll need admin rights to do so.

Also in the folder,
~\Steam\SteamApps\common\Steamworks Shared\_CommonRedist\DirectX\

is the DX 9 installer which is needed for FSX-SE, again you'll need admin rights to install.

Cheers
