Air Tanks are useless
im just saying that air tanks are useless, this is because you only get 1 breath out of it and it can't be refilled

I don't know, maybe there is (will be?) one very deep wreck where you really can not go without.

But until now I did not need them, either.

If you can get "1" breath out of it. Then it's not "useless".

uhh i've gotten atleast 12 breaths so you are incorrect

Even though it has not officially been stated, I believe the Air Tanks found post 0.02 to be bugged. Pre 0.02 they had 500 durability and even though they were infinite when empty they still depleted at a reasonable rate. The ones found post 0.02 only have 50 durability. If you found any Air Tanks pre 0.02 they work for 15-20 breaths before becoming empty and no longer working. I think they "fat fingered" the durability when they fixed them for the last patch.

i agree they are a waste of effort in their current state.. it would make sense if they had a minimum of 3 to 5 inhales/breaths just enough to loot 1 or 2 deep sea wrecks aslong as u have vitamins at hand to for the bends . other possible use would be cool if u could somehow blow up a shark with them as in jaws

Not possible.
They get drained in one go now.

Considering air tanks contain pressurized air, it wouldn't make sense that you would be able to refill them. That said, while the length of time does vary depending on the depth it is used at, the average suba tank can provide 45 minutes of contunuous air. Though they also can cause a debilitating syndrome called "the bends"(which is where air bubbles form in your blood stream), if you surface too quickly after usuing on for a length of time.

That is just the illness status. It isn't supposed to be the bends. As in-game you can get sick from diving too often. The bends can only be gotten from breathing in pressurized air. If the air in your lungs and body match pressure of the air on the surface, you won't be at risk of developing it.

And the bends is a severe sydrome that can have lifelong effects. Hence why I don't think the game's illness is intended to be it. Rather I think it is just a bacterial infection(it can't be a virus because there aren't other people around and a virus can cross species boundries without mutation).

Yes, but this is not a scuba tank. Like another user in a similar thread wrote, these small containers are used for emergency cases, and they only contain some breaths of air (5-8 if I remember correctly).

Yeah well if you get trapped in a ship because of a circling shark, you'll be happy you have one. Plus the less you have to go up for air, the quicker you can get out of there, meaning less chance of having a shark come along and screw up your looting.

Now that you mention it. It doed looks like an emergency tank. Though usuall those can carry anywhere between 20-50 breaths(depending on size). But maybe these ones are far older models, and don't have as much capacity.

My ideal fix for airtanks - A craftable landbased airtank refilling station made using at least one pretty rare item. Infinite refills, but full airtanks take up one inventory slot each.

Some last for a multiple uses, and some only allow you to use them once.

Even 5 decent "breaths" would be a lot better than the current .02 one and a half breaths. >.>

...I understand not wanting them to be as OP'd as before, but I think one should get at least 3 full deep breaths from the things, maybe 4. Simply because as mentioned, they are not refillable nor is one typically drowning in the things loot-wise. The most I found in one 20+ days game so far is 5, I think. Usually it's more like 1-3.
