Gyrocopter
Does anyone actually use the Gyrocopter for anything? It seems quite slow, slower than the raft motor even, and it burns crazy amounts of fuel. Also it has no storage (compared to a raft equipped with crates). It just doesn't seem particularly useful at this point.

I built one to use for quick hops to nearby islands if I forget something, or for that one last item wouldn't fit in my inventory, but I have yet to fly it even once in my latest game (80+ days). I like my 3x3 cargo raft.

I love it, it's the only thing I use once I have it! It might be a little slower but not so much that you notice it

I don't get what you mean by the storage? What is the dif? I can carry as many crates on a copter as a raft?

Anyway, again, I love it but I will say that the main reason is because I can keep track of the map better in it than a raft and that might not be the same for everyone.

What they mean by storage is if you build a cargo raft, a 3x3 (or larger) raft without a top on the center section, you can sail with up to 7(?) wooden crates on it. The crates will usually stay put unless you get hit by a big storm, a shark, or if you beach it wrong.
I just like the change in perspective.

Right, that's what I meant. The crates I have locked in place that way have so far never gone overboard, not even when dropping the anchor at full speed. That's 12 (or more) additional cargo slots on a vehicle that can be brought to higher speeds while consuming less fuel than the gyrocopter.
tl;dr: I think the gyrocopter should be made a bit faster.

I didn't realize that, never had a lot of luck putting things directly on the raft so I didn't mess with it, didn't know you could stablize crates on a 3x3 or larger raft.

I'll try it, I don't think it will change my mind about the copter but it will be a good option if its a huge island with a lot of loot.

Though this topic is old, I'd like to mention that it is actually the fastest way to get a layout of all the islands, because the birds eye view. Also great for spotting clay and shipwrecks. I've really found no easier way than this to find clay. Also It does not feel super slow to me. It is way faster than paddling.

Edit:In other words it crushes everything when it comes to scouting. Considering I built mine by day 30 and still was unfamiliar with a lot of my map, that was very useful for me.

!! Raft storage, I built a big 3 long, 3 wide '+' shape.
Like the mentioned 3x3 but with NO corners... I think it turns faster with less Mass(!), mine is 4 pontoons/raft sections lighter than squar 3x3.

I have yet to build a copter but it is on my list of things to do.
