Gyrocopter - what's the point?

I just built the gyrocopter and now I'm struggling to figure out why it was worth the trip to the aircraft carrier. It doesn't seem all that much faster. In fact, the biggest difference I can see between the gyrocopter and my 5x7 raft is that my raft can hold 12 storage crates.

I use the chopper for hunting runs really. Just put a couple boxes in your personal inventory and set up a little base camp. The advantage there is that you can patrol an island and see if there is anything worth hunting before you land. You can also see those heat seeking giant crabs before they sneak up on you. Them little bastards hurt. Just don't forget to bring some fuel with ya so you don't wind up fishing your chopper out of the ocean. (been there done that).

That takes all of the fun out of it, though. My favorite part of the game is landing on a new island and hunting down all of the animals. Nothing like slowly sneaking around with some refined spears, keeping an eye out for the giant hog while listening for snakes.

I think I'm starting to realize just how damn boring this game really is. Time to switch over to Green Hell.

I agree, I have never made it, I just love paddling or sailing to other islands, I just play it to enjoy the graphics and simplicity.

We (My wife and I) have an aircraft carrier LOL 5 x 5 raft with a space dead center for the gyrocopter. I use it to go tough places on Community maps or to scour the Island before I leave to make sure I didn't miss something. Once we get enough potatoes we build a base and cook some fuel ... got a full container of full cans right now LOL

It's only faster because you can fly straight from A to B with a perfect view . With raft, bumping obstacles like masts and have to change course, makes navigating easier flying.

Raft can hold tons of crates but i found the 10 normal spots enough with 10 crates * 5 items

LOL I played about 600 hours alone from the very creation of the game before the whole game engine got changed. I have played the last 700 + hours split-screen with my Wife :) I like to explore she likes to build.
