Takeo's Book Puzzle?

I know the solution is randomized every time but it won't work even if I know my solution is right. Is this a glitch?

I know it's an old thread, but thank you two for the help! I'm playing through it right now and the screenshots were a big help. Heh heh yeah, I'm pretty lazy when it comes to puzzles in third-person games.

Ugh, you have to leave the book on the examining table and then you can grab the book off the shelf. That's what I was missing with this puzzle.
