Yes but marines had nothing to do with firing the cannons
No because during an engagement the marines would fight from the fighting tops in the sails using swivels and long muskets and at the afterguard. They were never on the gun deck.
The marines job was to pick off sharpshooters in the enemy rigging and the opposing ships officers. Then get in close and real nasty if it came to boarding.
It's a little gamey, the way they split that wake up / make coffee time to between reloads and not just a massive 15 minutes before first reload, but well...
In the Royal Navy Marines were definitely on the gun decks, they helped run the guns in and out until needed for boarding. Not all Marines were sharp shooters. Still, game = balance trumping reality, which isn't a bad thing.
