tents?
for some reason it only occurred to me today that the long dark should have tents. i really feel like the addition of some kind of portable shelter could really benefit immersion and improve the ''outdoor camping'' aspect of the game (i know snow shelters exist but let's be honest, who the ♥♥♥♥ uses those).

it could be implemented as a somewhat rare item weighing like maybe 3-4kg that can be carried to different locations and set up on flat surfaces for wind protection and a wamth bonus.
there could be an option to either sleep in it as is (similar to cars) or place a bedroll inside for extra warmth.

there might even be potential for a crafted variant (maybe requiring a moose hide so it isn't too easy to accquire) that would be warmer/more durable but also significantly heaver (like the bearskin bedroll vs. regular bedroll).

edit: due to the coming addition of travois the heavy weight problem of tents could be somewhat mitigated and carrying them around would be more viable. i really am hoping for something like this to be added in the future

I haven't tried it, but there's a mod - "Jod's Camping Tools" - that adds tents. Probably others.

Could also have some durability, those blizzards are nasty.

I think I would rather sleep in a snow shelter than some flimsy tent. Probably easier to set up too. Not only would it take time to set up but also dismantle it. Not to mention the amount of damage it would take in a blizzard.

You have a lot of faith in some thin plastic to keep you warm and safe.
tents are not all plastic, you have canvas tents that the pioneers used all over including Montana, in the winter witch can be pretty brutal.

i've never built a snow shelter irl myself, but i do think it would be way easier to set up a small one person tent. i do agree though that the average camping tent probably couldn't withstand a blizzard, but i know for a fact that a tent can provide a decent amount of warmth and keep you dry. i wouldn't want them to completely replace snow shelters, obviously, i just think it would be a great addition as something of a more portable and convenient counterpart.

Honestly I'd support this. It'd be an interesting new element (a shelter that you carry with you) that also fits in well with the existing style and whatnot of the game.

After doing some research on cold-weather tents, here's how I would implement this:

The tent cannot be crafted, but can sometimes be found in some residential structures (PV Farmstead, Trapper's Homestead, etc.) in varying levels of condition. It can also be found rarely in locations like the Quonset Garage and the Camp Office (and other places likely to sell tents) at between 90% and 100% condition. Maximum of one per region, regardless of location or condition (though sometimes none may spawn).

The tent weighs 4 kg, and provides a 7.5 °C warmth bonus in addition to the bonus provided by a bedroll if the player chooses to use one when sleeping in the tent. The player can also rest or pass time in the tent

The tent provides both wind and water protection to the player, but will gradually become wet like a piece of clothing if the weather is bad, increasing its weight and requiring that the tent be dried out indoors or by a fire.

A tent decays at the same rate as a standard bedroll, but requires twice as much cloth to repair with a sewing kit. A tent can be harvested for 14 cloth and 4 scrap metal, but takes 3 hours to harvest.

The tent takes 20 minutes both to set up and take down (unless ruined, in which case it can only be harvested), and cannot be set up without a light source (either the sun or a nearby campfire/lantern). The tent must be pitched on a relatively level surface, and cannot be pitched on rocks.

A moose-hide tent can be crafted with two moose hides. This tent weighs 9 kg but provides a 15 °C warmth bonus, decays at the same rate as the bearskin bedroll, and can be repaired using two leather.

yeah that sounds like a good vision :)

I love this, especially the ideas put forth by HuskyDynamics.
