Cant find the map for episode 3
I've "progressed" to the point where I've found 1 of the 3 last "extra" crash survivors (and brought them back), and I've yet to find the correct amount of kerosene(?) to fill the kitchen cupboard. But I simply cannot find the last 2 survivors OR enough kerosene(?) to finish this chapter.
BUt the biggest thing for me standing in my way: I don't have a map. Not sure what I've missed earlier in episode 3 to GET the map?

YEs thanks. I placed the two I brought back on a bed on the floor; figured THAT out when the 0/3 wasnt moving to 1/3 when I brought the first one back.
AND I will get to the game to see who the one survivor I have left to find is.

So, I just replayed the beginning of Ep 3 (as "Green Survivor" this time, using the space key to skip through some of the dialog).

In the beginning, I don't have a map. Picking up that flyer in the barn is indeed the trigger to get the map. However, Astrid answers the phone automatically as soon as I get close to the barn door (no click on the receiver required). The flyer is also automatically picked up when hanging up the phone. So the game seems to be designed to avoid the player missing the map trigger.

I don't at all remember picking up a flyer in the barn, but I suppose I COULD have and perhaps a bug is responsible for my not having a map. I remember having more than one phone conversation with the lady, including one after discovering the abandoned, broken down shed in the mountains after finding the plane crash, where there was a receiver on the wall that was rining (and then having a surprise conversation with her, where she had seemingly been keeping an eye on what I'd been doing. But...never any map.

When you left the Farmhouse, did you follow the blizzard lines to the small barn, with a single tractor outside? Or did you cut over the hill, and go to the big barn, with hay bales in the fields around it, outbuildings with hay bales in them, and 2 tractors and a flat trailer bed outside? The bard with a second floor? (Asking because some people head to the big barn instead of the very small one close to the farmhouse. And if you do that, you miss the first phone call, and the flyer that gives you the map.)

Interesting. I've only seen ONE barn near the farmhouse (the one with her dead husband's body in the basement), with the hay bales around (you cant get into the silo, either). The first time I had to trudge through the blinding snowstorm (which took forever), even though I was supposed to "follow the blizzard line" or something obtuse like that, I only found this barn, and it seemed to be far away from her house. Maybe I have to make my way back to her house (of course, without a map it isn't easy to do so) and look for this barn close by. Thank you for the tip.

If you go from the enclosed back porch, straight out, following the posts in the ground, with rope (sometimes broken rope) attached to them... that is the blizzard line you need to follow. The small barn, Molly's Barn, will come up on your left side, after you go through/past the orchards on your right. It sounds like you came out of the basement, and went straight over the hill, rather than going right, around the house to the blizzard lines, following them to Molly's Barn. In which case, you never got the first phone call, or found the flyer behind the phone. The blizzard lines are important, which is why Molly told you to follow them, when you answered the phone at the Farmhouse. If you skipped Molly's Barn, you skipped getting the map. You can try to go back to the Farm house, and find the small barn, just off the roadway. You *may* still be able to go in, loot that barn, and answer the phone call there, to find the flyer, and get the map.

I know you are a long way in, but it might be better to restart the Episode. And when you leave the basement turn right, and follow the poles with rope on them, to Molly's Barn. Or try to get back there now, without a restart, and go into the little barn. The game does let you skip things in the Quests. If you look in your quest log, the first quest, "Trauma"... I am guessing it is incomplete, and/or has one objective not ticked off on it.

There are online maps for Survival Mode, and a Detailed Regions Map guide(s) here on Steam. The maps are slightly out of date (Molly's Barn is not on them, neither is Thompson's Crossing, or the Plane Crash site...)), but looking at the Pleasant Valley map, the main roads are the same, Thompson's Crossing will be shown ad "Rural Crossroads" without the Community Hall, or the town marked (Map was made long before Episode 3 was released, and the terrain changes occurred). Not "ideal", but it may help you get a bearing on where you are in the region, to get back there more easily. Molly's Barn is literally right beside the main road.

Rather than spoiler post, if you don't want to look at the map, I'll post the guide here, and let you decide if you want to click it and look at the (outdated) map.

Wow. Thanks! I think I'm too "invested" in this story to restart the episode from the beginning. I'm hoping I can get back to the farmhouse and look for the small barn. Thanks so much for all your help.

Best of luck to you! Your adventure has been a great one, already!
I wish you success in getting back to Molly's Barn.
FWIW, if you did pick up the flyer, it should be in your journal; see screenshot: https://i.imgur.com/v9GBe4F.jpg

There's a map updated for Episode 3 that shows most of what you need to know to finish the episode. Given how far you already are in the story, this may be your best option to make the most out of a somewhat unfortunate situation.

This map doesn't show the locations of the survivors, but if you give us the name of the last missing person, I'm sure we can give you a small hint so you can discover them on your own.

Nice map nautofon. How the heck did I miss that in the guides? :steamsalty:
I literally only found about it 15 minutes ago from the PV wiki page[thelongdark.fandom.com]:steamhappy:

OK here;s the latest: found my way to the barn (the one with the dead wolf in it). I WAS in this barn before, I just hadnt remembered. I see the phone on the wall (and some paper---is it the map)? behind the phone. BUt I click on the receiver and nothing happens. I also cant take whatever this paper is.
ANd...I checked my journal and, sure enough, the last item in this "Trauma" quest (something about molly's barn...molly needs help or something?) is unchecked because I never went to the phone when I was first in this barn...way back in my game, in this chapter. I think I went in this barn the first time when it was pitch black out, past the part where I was rescuing passengers, and not in the beginning when I was SUPPOSED to, I was fooled thinking the OTHER barn I found wasw the right one. I guess that's why the phone doesn't trigger now. Still: the game let me progress for some reason even though I never picked up the phone or went in the correct barn the first time; earlier..
So I guess this means I CAN'T pick up the damn map? Ever?
ANd to answer another question put to me...the map is NOT in my "bag" or among my properties, so yeah...guess I never triggered this part of the game.
OK,part TWO of this mess:
-I went to the community center, and the 2 of 3 extra passengers I brought back and set up with beds...I wanted to get their names for you guys...I checked each passenger lying down and none of their names show up anymore, including Gwen(?), the first passenger I brought back. So I have NO idea who the 3rd of 3 passengers is that I need to go find. I guess I can go out and struggle again to find this 3rd passenger w/out a map as I did the other two, but damn. I can't believe I can't NOW answer the phone in the barn to get the map. SO I'll NEVER get the map (and apparently in order to complete episode 3 I NEED the map to navigate with)...and won't be able to finish this episode unless I start EP 3 OVER again, losing ALL those hours of gaming. My choice,I guess. And I choose NOT to start over.
As far as I'm concerned, this is a bug in the game. In a somewhat-linear story quest such as this, the game should NOT have let me progress unless I had found the right barn and gone in it, and answered the phone, back when I was supposed to be in this barn.
Dang it.

Well, that sucks. I was hoping the phone call would still happen, because that is what triggers the reading of the flyer, and getting the map.

They did update the game to let us do quests out of order, but I am guessing no one thought this would be skipped. Or that it could. Def needs reported. File a formal bug report on the Support Portal:

https://hinterlandgames.zendesk.com/

I do think you can still complete the Episode without the map, but it is going to be much more challenging. Firing the flare gun in the air should trigger a return flare from your last survivor, but if it's the one I think it is, they are really well hidden, tucked into an opening in a rock formation (like inside a circle, surrounded by the rock formation). And I agree, I think the game should not let you progress unless you answer that first phone call in Molly's Barn, or have some sort of failsafe if you manage to leave the barn before the phone call comes in. I wasn't sure if you actually could do that, but, you seem to have proven that you can. And if one person manages to do so, how many others have also done so, and not posted on these forums, or the online forums, or contacted Hinterland Support about it.

Definitely check in with them. I am not sure if they can take your savegame and alter it, to give you the map, and send the savegame back to you. But, it might be worth checking into. And def, reporting the bug that let you skip that part of the progression sequence.

Sorry, I wish I had better news for you. :(

Any chance you remember the locations where you found the first 2 survivors? Using the map nautofon posted, with the Episode 3 locations marked? Might be able to help guide you toward the third one, so you know where to fire the flare gun, and not waste shells trying to scour the whole region map.
nautofon 21. Jan. 2020 um 14:41
:steamsad: That doesn't sound good at all. For what it may be worth: I completely agree that this is a bug.

But, don't loose faith! :toqueTLD: In case you're willing to use one of the map images provided above, here are the approximate coordinates of the three survivors:

Wade: X = 1210, Y = 910
Logan: X = 2060, Y = 1340
Ava: X = 1420, Y = 2280

My guess would be that the one you haven't found is Wade, simply because this is who is the farthest away from the Community Hall. This survivor is hiding in the hills next to Molly's farmhouse. When you stand at that barn with the dead wolf in it, look towards the farmhouse. The high rocks immediately to the left of the farmhouse is where you need to go.
