How do I get back to the prison from power station?

I'm going around in circles and keep ending up back at Bear Bend, how on earth am I supposed to get back over the river? lol it's doing my head in!

Is there a console command or something to just let me teleport or noclip my way over? I keep ending up back in the same place.

Am I missing something stupid right in front of me?

There are at least three different ways you can choose between.

From Bear bend, can you find your way to the Trailer? It's close by. Cross the bridge by the Trailer, head up around the mountain, and the path forward may already be obvious.

IIRC there's one spot close to the top near some log bridges where you need to do a 180 degree turn. But going the way you are heading, I think that was easy to see. More difficult to find this route on the way to the power plant.

The steam tunnels are probably the simplest (and safest) way.

For the record, the third way would be going up the rope climb by Forager's Remnant (meets the first way by the log bridges).

I can't even find the steam tunnels, I'll try again later now I've had a break from playing. Think I just got lost as I had gotten sick of my surroundings and just wanted to get to my destination.

I'm still no wiser, but I'll check out the links of the maps and see how I get on. I think I've missed something along the way as the gates at the power station itself are locked leading to the bridge over the river and I don't have the key, that's why I was trying to head back to the prison area.

Are you playing story mode? That gate should not be locked in survival.

Yeah, story mode definitely wants you to use the steam tunnels there. Plus, no wildlife or weather effects to worry about. Have a light source or two though!

I can't access the tunnels though that's the problem, the gate is locked. I've had the phone call inside the power station etc, and I thought I'd searched all locations for keys.

Try saving and quitting and closing the game completely, and then relaunching it. There are a few bugged instances where a thing you need just isn't there as you first enter the area, but it seems like a shut down and restart cycle clears that up. You'll have to do a puzzle in the steam tunnels that might be non-interacting at first, and I also found a particular needed item in the mine to be absent on first entry, and one of the doors later in the steam tunnels was non-interacting. Restarting fixed that for me, but it was absolutely perplexing when I first ran into it.

Can you describe the location of the locked gate?

The ones on the outside of the power plant building are supposed to be locked. The power plant has an exit door on the far side that will take you across the river to the steam tunnel access doors.

Inside the steam tunnels, earlier versions of the game used to have bugs with doors that appear as "locked". But AFAIK Hinterland has fixed all these bugs months ago. This guide briefly discusses those bugs and possible workarounds, but be aware that it contains spoilers for an upcoming puzzle.

I don't remember needing to open the gate, though. You don't need to access the catwalk outside. You just exit the door on the other side of the power plant. That's why the gate is locked - to funnel you into the power plant for the phone call.
