Does anyone make use of the cooking recipes?
After reading the effects of most of them, I find the bonuses a bit lackluster and with the added negatives on most of them I feel making them to be more trouble and work than they are worth.

I have used them all, but there are a couple that I return to regularly: acorn pancakes (good calorie count and easy to make), and the pies that increase the carry capacity. I have also used one to recover after a bear attack (forget the recipe name but it improves condition and cabin fever, and decreases stamina). I have used the fishcakes a couple of times when travelling a long distance.

I don't think the recipes are intended to be an every day thing. They are not renewable. I like having them as an option, but they are not really supposed to replace mostly eating meat.

Waiting for the update when recipes are required to maintain the Well Fed bonus :campfireTLD:

Very situational. Certainly not as a routine action.

Agreed.
Rose hip pie or peach pie are great for the expedition to Timberwolf summit, and their downside is not a problem.

Never going to happen, unless ingredients are renewable.

they're enjoyable to use, but I feel like after a certain period of time you start running out of the required stuff (flour, oil, etc) and it's more of a luxury when you have them all together. Rabbit pies for the 3LB buff is good among many others. One reason cooking recipes seems to be so good is that stuff that has gone bad is still usable for the recipe. I've been sitting on this expired maple syrup for ages

I just started experimenting with cooking and, so far, it feels like there's too much going on. Less, as they say, is more.

For example, Breyer Pie - the star of that show is the 2000 plus calorie gain at a minimal carry weight. Condition, Stamina, and Fatigue affects for ONE HOUR are virtually worthless. Leave them out and let us be contented in sacrificing finite resources to make a homemade MRE. Simple and satisfying.

Venison and Rabbit Pie got it right IMO. They do one useful thing (increase max carry weight). So you can carry a few of those around and when you get to that rope climb while slightly encumbered or need to pack up a few extra lumps on a coal run, gitty-up!

Point is, there's no reason to be 'nourished' and 'gorged' at the same time lol. Particularly when the affects are so short-lived. Get rid of the 'extras' and let each item do one thing well.

Would be nice if a very basic form of stew/soup would allow use of ingredients already available such as meat, fish, and water to go into a pot or skillet that would allow us to routinely cook a HOT meal and perhaps one that can be reheated later.

When things like broth, Old Mill Flour, and cooking oil become available we can then add them to the mix and then maybe get something more than calories and a hot meal.

Same thing for making broths from various available meats/fish and maybe even the harvesting of tallow from cooking most meats as a possible substitute for cooking oil (I don't know how to cook :steammocking: ) which could then eventually lead to possible extension to the often requested candles and other wax based uses. At the devs' discretion of course.

The pies that give carrying capacity bonus are useful in areas with rope climbs. Being able to temporarily transport a few extra kg up a rope has come in handy on occasion.

Even without bonuses, I do like the included cooking options as a way of adding a bit role-playing / immersion compared to just frying up meat all the time.

Currently on a stalker playthrough. I'm mostly making stews since they seem to be the most renewable recipe. The broth is very cheap to make. You can hunt ptarmigans with just stones and the salt may not be renewable but man do you find a ton of it.

Well they def need to add canned corn and cooking ingredients (flour, oats, potatoes, carrots etc) to the random loot tables. There's a fair amount placed in the world, but it'd be sweet to cut open a timberwolf mountain plane crate and have it be full of flour and such. IMO almost every recipe increases the amount amount of calories the ingredients would have provided, so i cook em like nobodies business. :campfireTLD:
I've been making great use of the rabbit / venison pies since they help boost carry weight, and also the Rose Hip pies as basically a stronger coffee. I only really craft a few of the special recipes that help gain max / regular condition as a health source. Other than that, I'm pretty much just using porridge and bannocks as any other food source. I'm hoping for more recipes that use the existing food items to help spice up what options are available would be fun.

I like them as a long term food supply for home base, most of the special ingredients last a long time.

I find them useful for levelling up cooking at the beginning, carry capacity when travelling far and using ropes, ive used increased fatigue a couple of times when ive had to climb a couple of long ropes and run out of energy, ate a pie and can climb again and some of the foods without meat in them dont smell so you can carry food around with you without attracting predators so yes I am happy with the additions.
