It's possible (anything is possible), but I am not sure how probable it is. There are a ton of third party mods out there already, and the only ones that deal with maps in the game are for creating your charcoal map (cartography). I haven't seen any mods that actually use a map editor to create a totally new region (but I haven't looked at very single mod out there, either, so I may have missed it if it exists.).
Having a map editor for the game is something I would enjoy messing around with- there is a lot of open land on the island that we don;t see and can't reach right now. Some good spots to create new regions that fit into available spaces. But not knowing exactly what tool they are using, and what plans they have for unused space on the island for a possible sequel- would new regions added by HL break custom maps made by players if the dev's new region overlaps the player-made region?
A map editor and player-made custom maps is something many of us have been asking about and asking for, for years.
quick edit-
How the heck did I miss that on the online forums? O_O

Yeah. I watch that forum for when he will announce the release. Glad that Hinterland has opened up a bit about mods. I look forward to exploring although I doubt anything could be as good as what HL produces but after 4000+ hours of play I'm getting a bit bored.
Sorry for knocking on a dead thread, but I have to say I certainly hope Mountain Pass lives up to your expectations. Our goal is to try and be 'as hinterland-like' as possible, I feel like we have achieved that, but I will leave that up to you to decide.
See you in MP soon.
I think Raph is hesitant to really 'open up' to modding in fear of people royally messing with his game. If I was in his shoes I would feel the exact same way honestly. We all know what modders are capable of doing when given full control of things... for good or for worse.
I am hoping that our region mods are vanilla enough - as well as respectable enough - that people will take them seriously and most of all; enjoy it.
We do have a teaser trailer also if you would like to take a deeper look. It is attached to our latest DevLog.

I am with you on this. Hinterland is open as long as you are respectful of their IP and don't break their game.
All the mods I have looked at are very respectful and dont mess with the gameplay or introduce bugs, that I could find anyway.
I hope the next update from HL does not ruin all that you have done to develop your regions.
I look forward to when you drop them!
I have the pleasure of working with one of the best TLD modders and no matter what Hinterland do - he will find a way to make it work.
Even so, I would assume Ep5 is still at least a year away, so we got some time.
Since they have split survival and wintermute Ep5 should not be any problem.
