Mapping the Ice Cave [spoilers]
I wanted to share my map of the Ice Cave in Hushed River Valley. Spoilers from here on in.

*EDIT: An updated map of the ice caves can be found here:*
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1417872371

I mapped the cave in Pilgrim mode, so some of the locations might be different in higher difficulties (and I hear rumour of a live wolf?). The corpse locations might also be radial (i.e. not in the same place each playthrough), so use this map as an indicator only.

View the map here[steamcommunity.com]

- The caves are under the top-left (north-west?) part of the region. There are three entrance/exits.
- There are two waterfalls which will soak the player ((1) and (3) on the map) and another which is avoidable.
- The climbing rope at (8) is very short. The upper side is the top-right of the map, with the larger part of the cave (with the corpse and campfire) at a lower level.
- The ice caves at (4) glow a bright blue, and are a good landmark for navigating the cave system. They twist uphill, with the left being higher and the right (the 'corridor' linking (1) and (5)) being lower.
- The circular loop in the top-centre of the cave can be very disorientating, as every junction looks identical. Look of for sticks placed in a pattern on the ground (or place your own markers) so you know when you're running in circles.

Nice work!!!

Nice work, but I have my doubts about the "player gets wet" stuff. There are three, perfectly safe entrances into the big ICE CAVE, and none of them should get you wet.

There's a waterfal on the side of the Hushed River through which you can see some sort of cave entrance, luring you to try to get in (not sure if it's possible and someone reported getting in there and glitching through the level geometry and falling to their "death"), but the three REAL entrances are perfectly safe.

I guess the next step in identifying all the Ice Caves, since they are so awesomely called the same thing.

At least three, correct? The big one, the one behind Reclusive Falls' falls, and a small one the best I can recollect is physically close to the trans cave to the right, but you have to go all the way around terrain like a U.

Oop wait just looked at the map. I musta missed a turn under Reclusive Falls. Had no idea it went further back.

I too believe there to be two Ice Cave systems. One with 3 exits, and then another (not sure about that one).

That's interesting, Alcator. I started mapping from the exit marked (5) on the map, and when I crossed the waterfall at (3), I couldn't seem to avoid getting wet. Then the same exiting through the waterfall into Hushed River at (1). I then re-traced my steps and got soaked again.

Perhaps I just wasn't being careful enough, but I couldn't see a way to avoid it.

Aah, I haven't fully explored the region yet, so that's really good to know - thank you. Once I get to the other ice cave I shall try to map that as well.

Thank you for your work in helping the community! People like you are the reason I enjoy the game so much. This community always has people working dilegently to help out.

I mean, it has some toxic people, but all communites do.

But yeah, thanks for the map, seriously!

Very good work-the region is tough to map since the "cartographer' mapping function is pretty primitive. I wish Whitebury would come out of retirement and take a crack at this one.I did a paper and pencil map using the grid coordinates ( F8) but the radical topography changes make it hard to really do.

Thanks for the efforts folks!

Okay, I explored an Ice Cave that starts in the lower right corner of the map. From start you hug the cliff wall on your right and keep it on your right. Find rope, climb. Just up the rope on your right is an Ice Cave entrance.

Going through, the second entry/exit comes out on an unidentified waterfall to your right. I couldn't trigger its name. To your left is a scrub brush-blocked path up to Mammoth Falls area *I think*.

Last entry exit is the one at the end of Hushed River...leave the river system to a snow path.

Is this part of your system linden and I somehow completely missed a juncture? I don't see how it's possible I did that.

Thanks! I just got myself lost and panic-ran my way through the ice cave yesterday and I'm pretty sure I missed SO MANY THINGS since I was skipping many many passages and blindly ran to an exit that I was pretty sure couldn't possibly be the only exit. Took a pretty screenshot, though!

Yes, definitively a wolf may spawn inside a Ice Cave, for what I remember is the one close to transition cave for MT.

And at each play, corpses location vary.

In 3 Stalker the only loot that seems have a fixed place is the hatched with dead guy in front a open cave.

BTW - Spawning in HRV run for a Ice cave, they have a warm interior and illuminated places inside. Then make raids for loot around.

In my 2nd spawn there (first end with unsuccessful "parkour") chased by a wolf I literally "jump" for the river and dive in the ice cave under the fall, find 4 sticks and some coal and was able to warm-up and make torches. :steammocking:
