Is this game better with a keyboard and mouse or a controller?

My opinion, yes

No not a troll just answered the question with a simple answer, that backfired because I did not review what I answered and thus did not answer the question, which I will now rectify.
I play on PC and PS4 and have played TLD on both so in my opinion mouse and keyboard are superior.

I combine the two, hold a Logitech F710 in my left hand and G500 gaming mouse in my right. Reprogram the buttons my left hand can reach on the pad to the most useful functions, including the directional pad. Between that and the programmable buttons on the mouse I have the best of both worlds, precision of the mouse and ease of movement of the joystick.

Imho, it really depends. if you want to lay down on the couch and play, controller / console is a lot better. if you want to sit at a desk and play, I do that. Imo, the inventory is awful trash in console. It's hard navigating the backpack and really takes the fun out. With a keyboard and mouse, it's so easy to navigate.

I have played over 3000 hours across steam, Xbox and PS4 all with a controller. No complaints.

Hm. you don't find it hard to navigate the backpack with a controller? I find it very tedious, slow and boring. My opinion though. :D

It's really just second nature at this point. And using one controller across all three platforms was preferable to me.

K/B & M by far for me.

Although I first discovered TLD on the Xbox early Access and fell in love with the game, I quickly shifted to PC and found it much more accessible.

However, Hinterland has done a remarkable job in translating the functions to the controller. Very intuitive.

I would say what you are personally most comfortable/experienced with using, seeing as TLD isn't a game where quick inputs/aiming or anything like that is a critical element of the game.
