Power in survival mode?
I was playing survival mode and after sleeping in the logging camp trailers I woke up and to my suprise, the lights where on! I got a screenshot of this because it confused me so much. Ihave never encountered this any time before and I thought the whole point of the game was that there was no electricity and thats why everything went all apocolyps-y. Am I missing something?

Electricity returns (somewhat) during Aurora nights. If you had gone outside you would have seen a glowing aurora overhead.

You had an Aurora come in, and temporarily electrify things again. It is freaky, isn't it? Just be aware... it does more than just make the lights come back on for a time while it is active. Not sure if you want spoilers or not, about what else it does. But there are other things you have to be aware of when an Aurora is active.

The aurora also brings it's own dangers, such as changing animal behaviour and activating electrical hazards

It'll charge a flashlight too if you can find one.

I hate the aurora in survival mode. Didn't find a single dam match over most most Mystery Lake, but I found a flare in the hydro dam. So I made a fire over a deer and cooked some meat and water. I could have been set to explore some more exotic locations. But right then an aurora and a storm appear. I sprint over to the new trailers in front of the dam, but I got killed by a zombie wolf right as a I open the door.

The wolf would have been there even without the aurora.

"Zombie wolves" is a misnomer, dont need me to explain what a zombie is. The wolves affected by the lights in the sky are not zombie or undead.

Their mental balance is impaired during the lights, so altered or changed (or similar) wolves would be more accurate than zombie.

Using "zombie" makes you sound like youre making words up to justify your in game death.

I wonder if the aurora and its effects only occur in Voyager, Stalker, and (presumably) Interloper mode sandboxes? Or sandboxes (any survival mode) that were created after the Story update?

I have found a flashlight in my Pilgrim sandbox that dates from the great update that forced new games. I know I have never seen any of the effects of the auroras or in the sky.

Yeah i'm wondering if you need a new save as well though i've only played a couple of days of my old sandbox

After they fixed it in Version 1.07 I've encountered the Aurora almost every night on my pre-launch Pilgrim save. From what I could gather on the forums it definitely seems work on Pilgrim and/or older saves, at least for some players, myself included.

Maybe, but they certainly don't behave like normal wolves. Later I had an even crazier instance. I'm at Jackrabbit Island and there is a blizzard. I finally want to get going and then there is an aurora. I think moving is suicide, but I want to try anyways. The destination is the fishing camp. I don't see any glowing wolves, so I think I might be able to do it. I go down the hill and when I'm maybe 2/3 to the bottom I see a wolf running at me downwards and from the direction of the lake. WTF?! There are normally no wolves literally on that island. They patrol the ice and that's it. It's like they have an insane detection radius and/or will ignore any terrain.

The Aurora might have been too rare before. But now it's way too often.

That explaines it! I thinks its a pretty cool concept aswell! I read some other threads abount radios playing things during an auroa. Ill have to try that.

This has been a great realistic survival game in sandbox. I am really sorry they decided to add "supernatural' events to it. And please no flying wolves or death ray guns as we move on.

I don't know, I'm starting to think maybe my entire game is bugged. I haven't seen a single aurora in my pre-existing survivor game, even after about 100 days. I started a new survivor game, and am currently on day 22, and have not seen a single aurora. Also, in my latest story mode game, I have not seen a single aurora apart from the one that is scripted to appear.

I really don't want to uninstall/reinstall my game, as I fear this will cause me to lose my badges...

In my Pilgrim sandbox, I have been moving right along. It is at about 550 days now (yes I am one of those kinds) so (speculating) maybe the auroras were "planned" in the nature of the Story to only really occur for a specific, limited time span?

We're currently in what I call "perpetual" winter but is that what the devs really intend? Since seasons are an aspirational item, maybe my sandbox at 1.5 years of winter is kind of beyond the pale in their timing, programming, and thinking. One of the recent patches did "fix" auroras so maybe my sandbox is now beyond the end of the "aurora" time even though the "fix" now made it possible.

Oh well. :steamfacepalm:

This parallels me closely; old sandbox, already about 150 days in, played another 21 days without seeing any lights; new survivor game, 19 days in, up every single night to see, no lights; Story mode, only the Aurora that is written into the story has been visible: apart from that one, I have yet to see them "naturally", and I have done almost all side missions as well as the main missions.

Not sure if is my game files or not..
