As mournfully lovely as it is, there are just too few amenities to make it worth a longer stay. No real "home" to speak of (who wants to sleep in a two-sided shed forever?), and getting anywhere is a chore due to the weak ice everywhere.
Use it for the Forge (and buttloads of Old Man's Beard Lichen if you need that) then head back to a more "civilized" map, is the only way to do it IMHO.
@OP- Forlorn Muskeg was added last December. It does not have a ton of man made structures to live it. It does not have a ton of store bought loot, in any mode. It does have a forge- something many people said was too far away from ML, too long of a haul to make arrowheads. So, they got a region close to ML with a forge. Players who liked the harder maps wanted another one besides TWM. FM gives them that, with it's own particular terrain and wildlife challenges. It is also rich in natural resources- Rose Hips, Reishi, Cattails and hunting prey animals (as well as predators). Having a map that was more difficult, in its own way, than TWM made th hardcore players happy.
It is not my favorite map. I'm not that hardcore to really enjjoy it. But there are people who have spent 30+ days straight there and done well, with the caves, Spence and the Hollow Tree to camp in, and lots of kill-&-eat food running around. And now that Broken Railroad is in the Survival Mode, and FM the only map it currently attaches to, I'll be spending more time in FM (and likely dying there) as well. The map can be avoided, you do not need to go there. But it is nice for those who really want and like a total change of scenery. It has its own distinct personality. IMHO, this is a good thing. Even if the map usually kills me if I try to stay there for too long.
My "home base" are in the cave in Marsh Ridge - the downsize of caves is the need of bedroll, since cloth for mending is very rare there.
Low on matches - 6 remaining, I move for the new region - Broken Railway (I am tired of Mistery Lake), find 12 matches and Magnificent Glass there.
But Broken Railway is hard to stay, very few Rabbits, don't see any Deer and my cocking level don't allow eat wolves.
The place has lot of deep trails for wolves hidden - see around 12 in various places. The Bear live in the cave across the stream.
The Shed is nice place for base, is outdoor and indoor - allow lit camp fire in indoor area (maybe bug).

Near the Lodge in the hill are a Rabbit area but see only 1 and 4 wolves in the lake in front to dispute then. At least the Lodge is good source of cloth for mending.
Around the Shed are usually 2 or 3 wolves, in the lake behind are 4. Now with 10 days there I need retreat for FM or starve - if the weather allow, since in Broken Railway blizzard came almost all days.
It also completes a continuum - as one travels from DP to CH to ML to FM - one is going farther and farther from civilization. It's like you start the port - Hibernia, worth your way through town - Quonset, then move on to cottage country - ML - and finally end up in the bush. For survival lovers, the wild is the ultimate challenge and it's own reward.
While it lacks human-made amenities to please the players who don't see the point without, it is a very valid region and unique as the others. For those who just don't like it - you don't even have to visit if you don't wish to :).
So, it's many things - but very deliberate. I'm quite sure many TLD veterans you aren't watching or don't know are having the run of their lives because they crave the outdoor harsh survival experience. GELtaz has many videos which feature FM, some of his mini-series taking place entirely inside it.
Come for the view. Stay for the freezing.

Instead collect soda cans, collect Cat Tails. :)
