Resident Evil 1, 2, 3 and more! Re-releases and Remakes!
This thread is an exrension of the following thread on the RE4 UHD board.

The following are games most of the fans are hoping will get released, re-released or remade on PC/Steam.

Release and Re-release Requests
  1. Resident Evil 1 Director's Cut*
  2. Resident Evil 2*
  3. Resident Evil 3: Nemesis*
  4. Resident Evil Zero*(HD remaster in progress)

*(1-3)Although pc versions already exist for these three games there are some out there that say they don't work on newer systems. I have the RE2-3 games and they run perfectly witth controller support on my 64bit/Win7 machine. There's information showing how to get these games to work but that information is scattered on the net. I believe rewriting the installation process for these games will solve a lot of startup/save issues people run into. Also, adding the vibration option for controllers would be an upside.

*(4)There's a fair chance Zero could get released but that will likely depend on the reception of the Resident Evil HD Remaster and the overall success of Resident Evil 4 UHD.

*(7)The primary request for Outbreak is to add multiplayer capability.

*While most of Capcom's focus is on new projects getting them to entertain the thought of remaking any of these games is a serious stretch. However, remaking RE2-3 and possibly CVX isn't totally out of the scope of possibility given the past success of these games.


As some of you may know there are already a couple of independent projects out there for a remake of Resident Evil 2.


What are the odds of Capcom remaking a game?
Honestly chances of this happening is very slim. There are key things that could fall into place that the fanbase can take advantage of to force Capcom's hand into at least considering.
  • Once again, the releases of Resident Evil 4 UHD and the multi platform Resident Evil HD Remaster will need to be extremely successful(translation :$$CHING$$CHING$$).
  • The fanbase will need to organize and decide on ONE game to support for a remake.
  • Fanbase will need to scale a massive(international effort for the greater numbers) campaign to push Capcom into considering remaking that game.

Best logic would say to get behind and support a RE2 remake first as an organized effort. I wouldn't recommend online petitions. Such things almost never work in any aspect of entertainment. Fanbase events such as massive groups of personalized letters to Capcom Japan and queations to devs at conventions/Q&A's will force a response from them. This is a more "human" approach and will most likely open some eyes to how serious the fanbase is.

With the news of an official RE2 remake I believe the fanbase will have a little more power to influence a RE3 remake as well. As mentioned before, sales of current, future RE games and massive community support will be the biggest factors to grab Capcom's attention.

I have written what I thought about all Resident Evil games.

Remake:
  • I am not fan of remake games. But if Capcom make a remake, I play it. :)
Re-release:
  • 1-2-3 re-release with compatibility fixes
  • Code: Veronica X HD Remastered.
  • Zero HD Remastered*
  • RE 5 Gold Content on PC**
  • Operation Raccoon City GFWL removal
  • Outbreak Files #1 and #2 HD Remastered
Other games:
  • Chronicles series: Maybe these type games are not suitable for PC.
  • Survivor series: The first two is not worth to re-release. Maybe Dead Aim can be re-released.
  • Also there are some games for handheld consoles, and many phone games. I don't care them.

* There are some leaks[gematsu.com] about RE Zero HD Remasted.
** The GFWL removal is confirmed, but Gold content is not confirmed.

The Chronicles series would be awesome for the PC. My issue is the awful story telling in the Suvivor series, including Dead Aim.

Remake 2 and 3, and then release the HD version of Code Veronica on Steam and I'll never both Capcom for anything ever again.

I'd happily pay well above my average expenditure on a game for each of the resi games if they were on steam.

I'd love some sort of classic compilation of the first 3 games, just something that's patched and runs well on modern PCs. A lot of the 16bit era games are well supported on Steam but for some reason the next generation of games that came around the PS1/Saturn era seem to be treated fairly badly, I'd really like to get a chance to play the 1998 version of Metal Gear Solid too. Resident Evil 3 is my fave from the franchise, Nemesis was such a badass OTT villain!

I really dont care about remakes, but i would love to to have the yet unreleased on PC RE games come to Steam!

As for RE5 Gold Content, a little birdie that has certain inside info & works for Capcom said the possibility of that happening is higher than ever now.

My god. A remake of Resi Evil 2, complete with achievements and cards would make my day. Although I would be conflicted. Still voting with my wallet as Capcom are evil.

Revisiting this thread in light of the offiicial RE2 remake news. Original post has been slightly updated. Any thoughts?

Outbreak would fit best, they could set it up to use steamworks and as the game world is already fully 3d so they could add re4/5/6 style controls and camera as an opition for those people who prefer a more "modern" play style.
