In my case the game crashed on startup. I updated my graphics card driver to the most recent version, which brought me to the Capcom logo followed by a black screen. Then, I just installed http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35 which allowed the game to function properly.

I download a chinese video player called xunlei player and it made this problem gone.So its maybe a video decoder problem.

Long ago when using certain codecs (you know back in the day) it would somehow effect RIse of Nations intro..

you sure its not your ♥♥♥♥♥♥ codec doing that?

mines running fine i have k-lite tho.. but it isnt affecting anything.

I seem to be having the same issue, I did dowload the directxsetup, and check my video card but it still shows the capcom logo then nothing after that. I am running windows 8, 64 bit and my vidoe card is a AMD radeon HD 8400, I know the video card sucks. But anyways , any ideas. I am hoping they will implement a patch for this , sooner rather than later.

For those who are still having problems booting into the game even after the DirectX setup, does your Windows come preinstalled with Windows Media Player? If not, can you try installing it and see if that helps your situation?

I am having the exact same problem, my graphics driver is fully updated I have direct x 9 installed, I've tried compatability modes, and running as an administrator. This annoys the hell out of me, this is my only day off for the next week and I can't even get the game to run! I feel like they must not test their software what-so-ever at capcom, because this is ridiculous.

Windows N/KN edition by any chance... ? Media Player installed ?

Well I have tried to do the media player download, but my OS already includes it so , none of the fixes seem to address this yet. Just to give a general update to the processes. Am accepting any suggestions, short of a window and my computer going out of it.

I suppose, you maybe right. The only thing that kind of perplexes me, is I can run anything I have tried and newer games. Wolfenstien new order etc etc. Alot of newer games highend requirements. So I feel the answer can't be so simple as it's your graphics card move on.
