How hard is 'climbing a mountain'?
I consider myself a RE vet but only started doing harder difficulties with RE7 and 2 remake (4-6 notwithstanding, different playstyle).

I already beat RE1 remaster on GameCube about 6 years ago, with Jill on 'easy' (taking a hike).

Now I went for Chris on normal (climbing a mountain) and it's immediately tougher with more enemies and less inventory space.

Will it be ok if I persist or is it too punishing after a long break from fixed camera resi?

Well, i decided on Mountain Climbing with Jill, having never played re1 before but played re2 remake on hardcore first try. My suggestion is play mountain climbing mode. It does get stressful if you play blind (my advice is play blind or it'll ruin the experience). But I was able to overcome the stress I kill almost everything in the game ( only avoided 2 zombies so far and it feels im more than halfway (maybe i am wrong).

The game has some developer troll elements like dark souls, so expect a bit of trial and error suprises, but most things you can improvise on. My only advice is, don't miss bullets :) a few doesn't matter, but you really need good accuracy because ammo is fairly scarce.

It will be okay if you persist long enough, as the game becomes more abundant in weapons. I also by chance took routes that made it difficult for me because i didnt know where weapons were located (so if i did it like that, it is definitely possible in other ways).

I personally think it is harder than re2 remake hardcore though. (modern games are overall easier imo).

Thanks.

I went for it and admittedly it was pretty intimidating early on, especially encountering zombies that I never encountered in certain places before.

But it's worth it. Just had my first Lisa encounter

yep my thoughts, I'd feel like doing an incomplete playthrough otherwise.

Still, for a first timer I think taking a hike is the difficulty to go.
