For the residence and courtyard basement you barely need any weapons as there are minimal enemies and you can run past them.
The only annoying thing is that once you reach the lab, you'll need to backtrack your way to the mansion to bring back your items. Better play it with Jill.
Jill is harder than Chris for me personally.
Still, in the end, he does not have the grenade launcher while Jill has, and that thing has been ridiculous in all early games.
