You can avoid them, by not killing the former zombies. No dead zombie = no crimson head (besides of elder)
They should spawn at the same position if you don't leave the room for a specific time. Otherwise they can be anywhere if you enter the room.
So far i know, they can't break through doors in lower difficulties, besides of one scripted point. But i've rarely seen a crimson head since most zombies survived and i was fast enough or have burned them down. (maybe 1 or 2 per run, but later)
I know from previous playthroughs that I'm never going through that spot in the room again. However I'm curious if there'll be three roaming crimson heads in the room when I'm going back to fight Yawn again and if they could spawn in my way.
I don't know much about crimson head behaviour because I mostly dodged, decapitated or burned my zombies.
At least one crimson head should spawn in this floor.
He stands up when you move to the position for the fake key placement/puzzle (with the fake key in your inventory). Just move forwards and ignore him when he stands up... he is later on another position - mostly between the first door and the first corner to the arrow, if you come from the stairs. And you can still dodge/avoid him but beware if you enter the floor through the first door, because crimson would stand directly on your side.
I can't say exactly if and how it relates to other crimsons in this room
if you play on hard you should already know the game as hard cannot be played till you already beat the game once atleast. so you should know how to avoid crimsons and where they are. there is only 2 100% crimson heads in each playtrough normally and one is a boss you must fight to get out.
the only other CH is the thing with the fake key like above poster already explained. he is easy to fully avoid.
CH spawn even when youre not in thier room. but they are in a dormant state until you reenter the room after they spawned. which means they will only break doors if you triggered thier aggro by going inside thier room again. alot of rooms dont need to be visted a second time thus this is not an issue. just make sure there is no corpses left in the areas you have to cross alot of times till the hunters spawn. once hunters spawn all zombies/corpses in hunter rooms get auto removed by the game by default no matter if CH or not.
take note that some doors cannot be broken as some rooms are considred "zombie safe" by the game. the fake key corridor is such a place. so that crimson or any crimson from the mirror hall can never enter this room at all. same for the crow side room (the new room besides kenneths corpse) which is also zombie safe. the upper dining hall is not safe tough same for the hallway towards the saferoom. so aslong as you exit trough one of the 2 rooms i menationed they cannot follow you at all and will return to thier default positions.
If the zombie is not burned in the timeframe or you do not reach the story segment that removes certain enemies from certain locations, then the next time you enter that location, the corpse will be replaced by a crimson head.
Any other time after that, once the crimson head has stood up, its spawn location will be the same as for the normal zombies, not where it originally laid. So if one is at a really stupid spot, you can "activate it", leave the room, and reenter, its position will be reset.
Although it is generally easier to just avoid killing base zombies so you don't have to deal with crimsons.
Crimson heads can indeed be already on their feet without having triggered them to stand up once you enter the room. They also seem to spawn in their zombie standing place.
Oh, and crimson head prototype 1 + flash grenade + 1 bullet = meat salad
