A few Once Again mode questions (zombies breaking down doors + costumes)
I don't know if this is because of me playing Once Again mode, but I noticed that after getting the Armour Key, zombies started breaking down doors like Hunters can? Is this normal?

Also, do I need to play Once Again mode to have the additional costumes unlocked or is it enough to have a completed save present without loading it?

Some doors can be broken by zombies on any difficulty on any play through.

Costume unlocks are universal in the game start screen. You need a Once Again play through to change costumes later though.

That actually surprises me, because I did a playthrough as Jill and I never had zombies breaking through doors, only windows. I guess I got lucky or just burned zombies in the right places.

I've actually tried seeing if the costume unlocks work if I have a save file with a completed playthrough and don't play Once Again mode, but it doesn't seem like the costumes show up in the character select screen? I don't know if I need to load the completed file, but when I do, I can only play Once Again mode and not a normal New Game.

Certain requirements have to be met for zombies to bust through doors. Like for example, in the hallway near the Tea room after you get the death mask from the greenhouse area, zombies bust through windows. If you don't kill the zombie in the jacket, he'll try and open the door in the tearoom hallway. If you move through the hallway fast enough he won't succeed. You'll hear the doorknob jiggling when he tries to.

Another zombie that's easy to get to do this is the one in the bathtub in the shotgun room hallway (chris only as Jill will automatically kill this one in a cutscene.)

Yeah, you probably killed the right zombies at those specific places to prevent that from happening. Or maybe you just played faster, rushing can also prevent zombies from breaking doors.

The one I always get is the guy that spawns after you save (or not) Richard from the poison. If you leave him alone he seems to burst out into the hallway after you've got the mask from the snake room.

I think the guy at the top of the stairs outside the east save room will eventually migrate into the room he guards with the deer head on the wall (by where you do the bee/lure puzzle).

After you use the dog whistle to kill the dogs if you leave a guy will have spawned on that terrace. I just found this out for the first time the other day. I killed him and he never ended up breaking the door down (the small key one) so that's a good idea if you just want to take him out and never intend to go back outside, it'll save you having to deal with an extra guy inside.

Thanks for the tips on the zombie appearances! I still can't believe that I never saw this feature on my first playthrough, despite it not being Once Again... mode dependent.

Another question: does One Dangerous Zombie only activate when you play through the game as both characters on the same save file Normal difficulty or higher or does the difficulty not matter? Also, will the ODZ only spawn in-game when you play on this difficulty or will it also appear on Very Easy and Easy?

It unlocks if you use both characters on one save file on normal or higher.
It appears on all Once again runs from then on. All.
It does not appear on real survival or invisible enemy mode since they are treated as different scenarios than Once again.

The whole forced ODZ mode is stupid and what really stops this game from being a 10/10. It should have been a bonus OPTIONAL mode. So what if you get it, how do you get rid of it, just delete all your files / reinstall the game? You shouldn't have to go through all that just to play the game normally if you want to.

If you want to normally play the game without ODZ, you can allways start from New Game, or play Real Survival. ODZ will only bother you during Once Again, which is a rather pointless mode anyway.

But then you can't use your unlocked costumes.

Have two savefiles with the costumes you want: one for Jill, one for Chris. That way you'll never get ODZ and can use all the costumes you want to your heart's content.

You can use all unlocked costumes for Real Survival, which is like playing Hard mode but plus auto-aim and linked boxes disabled, so even better for challenge purposes. Aside ODZ, Once Again is basically just to blast things with your infinite ammo guns, which can be fun for like... a couple of minutes.

Yeah that's what I've always done. But it doesn't get you the Passion for Fashion achievement for some reason unless you do it all on one save file. So I got 2 normal Chris's done and will just do 2 easy Jill's and hopefully that'll give it and not unlock ODZ. It's still really silly how they make you tapdance around this mode if you want to unlock everything else.

I agree it's silly and annoying, definitely.

If you want the achievement, you can play through Easy or Very Easy with all characters on one savefile; from what I know only Normal and Hard unlock ODZ.

Well for some reason I just got Passion for Fasion by finishing my invisible zombie run. It was on a Jill only file so I am even more confused now but god knows I've played the game a few dozen times with separate character files to warrant the achievement anyway.

I loaded my blue Jill save (Real Survivor color I think) to do invisible and when I finished it it said I unlocked a new costume (RE3 Jill, for the hundredth time) and it gave me the achievement. No idea what's going on but I got them all now. I even started a Once Again just to see if Forrest was unlocked and he wasn't so I think I'm good.
