Why exactly don't they just leave the mansion from the front door?
I'm probably missing something but from what I understand the stars team went into the Spencer mansion because they were chased by zombie dogs, but you kill several of those inside the building. When ever you try to leave from the front door in the PS1 original there was a cutscene of a dog trying to come through but you would jam its head with the door and kick it out, in the remake it lets a cerberus inside and then you have to deal with that dog. Was it a mission of theirs to investigate the Spencer mansion originally? The opening said they were looking for their lost bravo team.

Yea I always thought it was silly. You guys are already split up, now you see a zombie. Oh wow that's some ♥♥♥♥, hey let's split up some more and check things out. Meet again, hey so I got some guns and ammo, and there's a lot of puzzles and monsters and it's all just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Let's just take our chances outside and get away from this wacked out place.

But no, you play along with the nonsense and do puzzles and go deeper into this crap. Even after seeing the crazy monsters and losing more guys.

Same reason, you let in one dog, but the rest are still stalking the door and the forest.
Also, Wesker most likely closed the front door eventually.

Even if they go out, then what?
Brad wont land the chopper down there and they would be out in the open with an unknown amount of dogs around them. At night. In a forest. Dozens of miles away from the city.
Also the main reason they went there was to find the bravo team and as you find out, the majority of them went to the mansion.
Brad on the other hand could have acted differently and fly back to the city, get reinforcements and come back. Instead of just flying around for hours....

Because you have better chances of fighting and organizing a defense indoors, than being a sitting duck in the middle of a huge dark forest where enemies might come from any direction and you may not even spot them until it's too late. Especially against Cerberus, which clearly get the upper-hand in the woods due to their superior mobility. Chris himself could have died if it wasn't for Wesker.

Inside a building, you can also hope to find a safe area where creatures may be unable to come in.
Why search for keys when you can just shoot the lock open? Why is there ammo all over the mansion? Where does Jill store that grenade launcher? And why is there a teleporter in the item box?

We could sit here all day discussing video game logic really.

The original mission of the game is that Bravo team went missing, and Alpha team was sent in to find them. Once in the mansion, they find many Bravo team members dead. It seems completely likely that they'd continue to investigate to find any surviving members of Bravo team, or to help stop whatever has caused everything going on.

These are law enforcement members, not civilians... this is their job... besides the fact there's nowhere to go once they go outside with an army of dogs ready to rip them apart

At one point zombies break through the windows of one of the hallways so it's safe to assume that zombies, crows and dogs are outside.

AFAIK IRL shooting locks isn't as effective as games and movies would have you think. At least with handguns/rifles. Shotgun slugs might have a better chance.

Also gameplay/story segregation exists. A game cant always follow what a cutscene establishes either to keep a challenge or engine limitations or just another reason.

Chris, where's Chris?! Never leave a man behind. It's a thing. (Also they went there to find out what happened to the S.T.A.R.S Bravo team and investigate the odd murders in the Arklay mountains.)
