Compared to Resident Evil 1 on PS1
How is this remake? Resident Evil 1 was an excellent game, held back by awful controls. How are the controls in this game?

Have they added anything or revised anything from the old PS1 game?

Can you still hear about a "Jill sandwich?"

It's the definition for how to do a remake right. Basic layout of the mansion is the same with a few new areas and a couple re-designed parts. Enemies are the same but now when you kill a zombie after X amount of time it revives as a faster fiercer version unless you disposed of it properly. Some puzzles were replaced or otherwise redesigned. It's got all new voice work so the sandwich is still in there but re-worded. Some new costumes and bonus modes like real survivor where item boxes are not all connected and there's a mode where all enemies are invisible.

Controls can be kept as classic tank controls or you can change them to be more like an action game so pressing left/right moves the character in that direction instead of just rotating them. There's also the 180 degree turn added in from later games.

No real reason not buy this, it's excellent.

That's exactly what I was hoping to hear. Thank you for your fine response. Have a nice night!

No problem, hope you enjoy it if you get it.

Just be ready, because while it is true that the basic design of the mansion is the same, it is actually a lot bigger. More rooms, an entire outside area, and very, very few of the original mansion puzzles remained the same. For example, the very first key item you need to get is a brand new one, and you need to use it in an area not present in the original. (Sadly, they didn't remove that terrible statue-pushing puzzle from the tunnels.) The route is also different, as they moved the lab entrance to a brand new area.
There is also an entire new subplot in there, and the enemy AI works differently too (when they didn't outright replace the enemy types or change their position).

So, in the end, while you will see many, many familiar things, also be ready for numerous changes all around.

^ Thanks for the heads up. I haven't played the original in about 15 years so I should be okay!

You are the perfect audience for this then. You still remember some of the original to have nostalgic flashbacks playing this one, but it will offer plenty of new places and mechanics to make you feel like playing a brand new entry in the series.

Tank Controls are never bad.

Still, this remaster is top-notch once you get past some port problems. Go check the PCGamingWiki article for this game for some easy performance fixes that'll greatly improve the game. If you can't maintain a perfect 30-60 FPS (depending on whether you pick 30 or 60 from settings), the game will actually slow down and in some cases de-sync audio. The game's rendered in 1920x1440 internally, so this can be a bit more demanding than you might think (though still relatively light on most hardware).

The dialogue is also reworked, something I found quite disappointing. Now, it's actually half decent, which ruins a lot of amazing memorable moments with the old trash-dialogue. Why not include the 1996 clips? An excellent mod was created to remix the old VOX into the remake, but sadly the only way to get this mod is through a Mediafire download... ugh.

The remake is wonderful and more challenging than the original.

I began with the remake to officially understand the franchise back in 2002 and was amazed at what I was missing. But upon playing the original PS1 edition, I couldn't believe how easier and hilariously underdeveloped it was despite the epic nostalgia.

Anything considered comical or bland was replaced with sensible material while still giving nods to the PS1 counterpart. There's many newer advantages to the remastered edition compared to the Gamecube version and furthermore shouldn't be missed even by newcomers. There's tons of bonuses from the Nintendo edition along with other interesting secrets I won't reveal brought into this version also.

Aside from a few problems with the FPS and audio in some cases, and the controls being the same with some mild changes in terms of the camera focus, it's worth a purchase.
