Spell explanations?

Hello all.

I'm not sure I'm understanding the meaning of some of the spell explanations.

Arcane Explosion - Deals 195* damage within the radius. Gain 1% spell damage.

Arcane Strike – Deals 173* damage within the radius. Spell damage counts 2x

Chain lightning – Deals 403* damage to an enemy. Jump to three more targets.

1) Why is every damage # in the spell descriptions followed by an asterisk, what is the meaning?

2) Who gets the bonuses? The hero casting the spell? Towers that "cast" the spell?

3) How long does the bonus last? A given wave, or is it permanent, or something else?

1) Not entirely sure I think it is because the number can change

2)No tower casts the spell, you do as the player and the hero just happens to bring the spell. The bonus goes to the spell, ex.: Arcane strike 173 and spell damage 2x means 173x2=346 spell damage. Arcane explosion gets 1% spell damage each time you cast it. Chain lightning means besides the number of enemies it jumps to, it will jump to 3 more on top of it.

3)These bonuses are permanent. Most abilities state if it only lasts for the wave.
