Took me all week to get a run in this time around. My theme this time around was "Hatice is the real captain, recruited Harry to act in her stead in exchange for taking him to the Lost Island". Worked decently. She got all the bonuses to rolls and insight spending, and by the end of it I was making bank. Full Legendary with a few thousand left to spare.
I've got a story in mind, let's see if I can actually find the time to write it...
What do you get when you combine Jan-Piet's captain bonus, with Hatice's storycard, with Victor's tactical insight card, with the Songhai Sword, with Lecture Expert, with Tales of the Wild, with the Origin of Species II ? An unimaginable amount of tokens and resources!

Emilia's story is actually really good, pretty cray! Barely hit that gold medal thanks to her :D
Didn't have a win with Hildegard yet. The Maria/Yvonne story card combo's pretty strong and having a bit of science per campaign token doesn't hurt. Mask of Madness for +2 campaign per level of beguiler and the +25% status from campaign from the Portrait really helped out too.
Thanks for the challenge and continued support!
Very fun run.
There were quite some platinum scorers this time around. I had expected 9000 to be a challenge with a limit on total expedition levels, but apparently all of you shine even in mediocrity. Lady Vaduva is pleased.. she thinks.
Challenge #33 is done. Challenge #34 will be online tomorrow morning (11am CEST). Normally I post the new challenges Wednesday night, but tonight the Abbey is getting lots of visitors from a local game studio incubator[www.dutchgamegarden.nl] (the one that Abbey Games worked inside of for its first two years as well!)
First of all let's look at the captain stats, which I think are always interesting.
Captains
(Average Score | picks | Captain)
Expeditions
Here's a quick summary of how many expedition levels people used.
Apparently not everyone deemed it necessary to use their full 12 levels. Interestingly enough there are 2 level 10's and one level 11 in the top 5 scores!.
For a more interesting view on the expedition levels, scroll through the ranking, which shows the chosen expedition levels and sequence per entrant.
Hopefully see you back tomorrow for our new challenge! In the meanwhile, any thoughts on this week's challenge?
Ohh, awesome, hope they like the Abbey :)
Find it rather interesting that so many went for Agatha, considering that she's not known to be a massively high scorer (and it shows in the results too!); and well-done to those scoring so well with the less-loved captains - love seeing underdogs do well!
If I had the patience, would be interested to see comparisons for which campaigns people picked for the last three trips where they have the most freedon alongside their chosen resource - think it could be quite revealing as to which (asides from Mali) are most easy to get good scores from late on.
Last time we will see such high scores? Rio getting nerfed will probably have a big impact.
Agatha is probably the most versatile character encounter-wise and easy to play with. Not sure who to bring for the third team member? Agatha will work with almost any crew. She has 4 different emotional attack (including 2 AoE). They are all 100% hit chance, even her physical attack! Having written all that, she is probably a little OP for encounters. Her campfire stories and captain bonus are not that good though.
Think Maria's got a decent captain perk - same as Victors, but she ALSO gets a better campfire card for chalking up tokens, and one that guarentees a bonus beguiler perk on almost everyone it's used on, which can make her useful in a beguiler-stacking team, especially with her own perks. I admit, not necessarily reasons for her to be captain, but she's a decent fill-in if you either don't have or don't feel like playing one of the others that can score massively well. Mind you though, if you use her card for devious instead of friendly encounters, you get quite a lot out of her captain perk, unlike poor Victor.
As for Jan-Piet, yeah, he's not quite on par with Charles/Anna level of captaincy, but he's definately in the second grade of them methinks. Firstly, he's the core of the Beguiler stacking team with his card, and with his captain ability, makes those bonus campaign tokens strong enough that they don't need much boosting to mean you can more or less ignore collect, especially if you don't need legendary gear, which we certainly didn't in this trip!
If scores go lower, wouldn't totally attribute it to Rio, mind you. Manual's working on killing save-scumming, so that may effect the high scores too, though I'd hope we still get as good without them :)
Hmm. A singed llama-fur coat for Phillippe? Perhaps extra llama-cushioned wrapping for his leg so it doesn't seize up in the cold? (Or maybe he secretly isn't depressed about nothing happening, but converted to the llama cult instead and isn't happy that his boss got beaten?) So many possibilities!
