Baby age registering weird(bug?)
It's not entirely a big thing but it does bug me a little.
If a colonist has a child the childs age isn't exactly correct. Apparently the age ticker will start for the baby the moment the mother is pregnant, so they're already registering as almost a year old at birth, but in the side it will have their actual. Usually the actual age can not be lower than the body age so it's weird that the baby comes out like that. So, when the child who is technically only a few quadrums old, hits age 3 because the ticker started at conception.. they age up. It's just... odd and seems like it should be adjusted and their age doesn't actually start until they're born.

Example:

Missy
Female, age 3 (0)

Born: 15th of decembary 5500
Chronological age: 0 years, 3 quadrums, 1 days
Biological age: 3 years, 0 quadrums, 4 days

if the baby is really not even a year old they shouldn't age up yet. I don't mind waiting it just seems weird that the game would have the child come out like this. Is this something that will be adjusted in the future? Did we notice this before and just not care? As I said it's not entirely a huge deal it just seems weird to have them age up so fast and have discrepancies in their age.

Does anyone else think this is weird?

I think this is not a bug, these are the laws of the game - children grow up at a speed of 300%, you can set it in the settings and 400-500%. This makes sense, because waiting for a child to grow up naturally is too long and in the end they will be useless for the colony and the game as a whole, it will just be a vegetable lying in a crib your entire game, this would be a problem. In vats, children grow up even faster, because you need pawns as quickly as possible
If you mean they come out of the mother with a chronological age above 0 days then that is a bugged mod.

Otherwise by default children have a 400% age multiplier which you can configure in storyteller settings (anywhere from 100% (normal) to 600% speed).
In the options (I think maybe it's a storyteller option?) if you have BioTech, there is child age scaling. By default it's 400%, or quadruple aging. Hence, three quadrums of actual chronological age = three years of biological age.

The age scaling exists because most games do not last 20+ years, and babies are basically deadweight until they are at least 13, and aren't a full adult until 18. To make most players even consider raising children, the quad growth rate is there by default so that it "only" takes three years and change to get to teenager, two and a half in the learning child state if you just chuck babies into growth vats where their development doesn't matter.

If you want to spend 18 years raising a child to maturity, you can set it in the options, but again, most players don't keep a colony that long, so it would only make sense if you wanted to play it more like The Sims and wanted to have designated child characters.

Ah. I see. Well as i said.. i don't mind letting them age normaly. I do play my games for the long haul and story so yeah. I'll just adjust the ageing to normal pace. It adds a sense of realism and why you should control how many kids you have or you'll end up bogged down by baby tasks and not much else. Ty though.
