Mod to forbid pawns wandering through kitchen?
Hi there so I found the one-way doors mod and I was wondering if there's a mod that allows for rooms to forbid the "pass through here to save time" pathing?

I have a freezer room a few tiles East of my kitchen, my kitchen is directly adjacent to the rec room so they can put the food in there where I got the fridges.... problem is pawns use this shortcut all the time and dirty the whole damn kitchen.

Same is happening with my "sterile" infirmary.

I just want some way to make them enter there if they have business in there, other than that to keep out.

Thanks in advance!

The mod Path Avoid allows you to increase the pathing cost of certain tiles to prevent colonists from thinking it's a shortcut, I used to use the mod for this purpose. Set your kitchen/hospital to an avoid zone and colonists will only go in there when they have to.

That said, the mod has more and more compatibility issues these days from what I've heard and I've stopped using it. If a mod conflicts with it then pathing can break entirely in your game resulting in very weird behaviors.

Personally I use vanilla solutions now and just design my rooms so they aren't considered shortcuts, hospitals only have 1 door so there is no passthrough, kitchens can be designed the same way. Dining room -> freezer - > kitchen, with the only access to the kitchen being through the freezer. The other solution is to just have a larger kitchen, or make it part of your dining room, the amount of filth on the floor required to cause food poisoning in like a 10x10 room is massive and not something you generally need to be concerned about as long as at least one pawn is on cleaning duty.

Not sure about a mod for it, but the easiest way to avoid the issue is to simply having just one door to those areas, that way they will only enter if they have business there. If you need a second door for reasons (for example a quick entrance in a emergency) you can build it but forbid it until needed.

Untrue. I have a prison cell with only one door, and if it's not locked half my idle population feels the need to go sight seeing in there....

Untick "gather spot" on the table/campfire in that room. Idle pawns wander near active gather spots toggleable on things like campfires and tables.

Problem is I'm playing a mostly swampy world seed and I chose a tropical swamp, the buildaible terrain is limited and I had to create some small rooms here and there

Can you adjust the allowed areas for pawns? Like prevent those not involved with cooking from entering the kitchen area maybe. I combine research, kitchen and medical all in the same room with only one door and that works nicely, took me some experimentation to figure out.

I mean just make the kitchen a one-door room, nobody other than the actual cook will ever go there. No reason for this room to be a corridor between two other places

Alternatively, use the doormats mod to limit filth when pawns travel from room to room, or just build roombas with biotech. Two of them will usually keep your base squeaky clean at all times with no effort needed from pawns.

My preferred solutions are either to create zones so that only chefs (and haulers if necessary) can path through the kitchen, or to use Locks to allow only them to pass. Both accomplish the same thing, but the former is more vanilla.

Why don't you just create an allowed area so only your cook can enter the kitchen. Or make your kitchen have one entrance so it's not a hallway to the rest of your base.
