Note that there really isn't any synergy for the two (apart from not being allowed to make a psychically deaf pawn a mechanitor) but they don't really have anything making it a bad choice either
There are several draft range mods for mechs. Some of them make it unlimited, some are limited by the mechanitor's psychic sensitivity. If they wanted they could totally do the "King of Robots" thing. There are even mods to let anybody (not just royals) use thrones.

Even if your mechanitor not on the map (set for caravan) just set allowed area for the mech you select, those mech will go there and attack if theres hostile enemy.
No need to draft the mech
