Biotech won't activate
Bought Biotech today, and I'm finding out that it won't even activate. I uninstalled all my mods, uninstalled the game and installed it back, verified integrity of game files and made sure I'm the current version of rimworld, and nothing is working. Any ideas what my problem is?

If you go into the mod manager, does it list Biotech as one of the installed modules on the right hand side of the screen? If not, does it list it on the left hand side of the screen?

It shows up on the left side, and if I enable it and let the game restart itself, when I go to check it again it's back on the left. I'm pretty sure it doesn't even show up as being owned on the title screen given the color of the icon

I think your instinct to try uninstalling all mods was a good one, but many times just deactivating and unsubbing from mods will not remove them completely. Small files, XML files, and changes made to the base game files can still stick around after.

Here are all the files for Rimworld that you would need to remove if you wanted to do a complete fresh install;
Things to delete:
Your user files for the game which are found in a hidden Appdata folder. Your file structure would likely look similar to mine: C:\Users\USER_NAME\AppData\LocalLow\Ludeon Studios\RimWorld by Ludeon Studios. Delete the Ludeon Studios folder.
You will lose your saves, and need to reconfigure base game settings.

Game files. Right click Rimworld in Steam, select properties, select Local Files. Delete the Rimworld folder. You may have to still select "uninstall" on Rimworld within Steam.

Workshop files, which are located somewhere in your Steam directory: ...\steamapps\workshop\content\294100 That last number is Rimworlds ID on Steam. Delete everything in here, you can leave the 294100 folder. Re-install the game.
Its up to you if you want to try that! Fwiw I think there have been other threads about this as well, but I dont recall a different answer that helped anyone.

Honestly, I'm really not too broken up about Biotech not working for me; I'm kind of in agreement with the part of the community saying that it's not worth it and the only reason I bought it was because I had extra money on hand and I wanted to use some mods that required biotech. I'm gonna be trying fixes and taking suggestions on what to do until Steam refunds me my money and then just leaving it there/

Right click RimWorld in steam go to properties and go to the DLC section please make sure install is ticked. If it is ticked then untick it, launch RimWorld then close RimWorld after letting it load and tick it again.

In my personal opinion, Biotech is the best dlc yet and very much worth the features.

100% agree with this.

Unfortunately by the time you replied, Steam already gave me my refund, so I can't do that until I decide to buy it again. Even so, I most certainly had it installed, I can't believe that it would show up in my modlist if it wasn't
And to each their own about the dlc, personally the only thing catching my interest is the children on account that the other two big parts of kind of already exists in my eyes through mods.
Conotrollable mechanoids? You got VFE-Mechanoids and What the Hack.
Xenohumans? There's HAR and MoHAR

So u went into it with a defeatist attitude and ready to disagree with anyone who said otherwise. What's even the point then

I wouldn't say defeatist. I like the game, I want to support the dev, so I bought the dlc for that reason and to see if I liked the content that I felt was new, plus the extra content I could get through mods that need the dlc. The dlc didn't work, so I wanted my money back.
Besides I said to each their own. I respect the people that do genuniely love the dlc, I'm just not one of those people

ngl I stopped looking for a solution to help you as soon as you said you had already initiated a refund.
Like you said, to each their own.
But HAR is literally nothing compared to Biotech. You will have to add at least 5 other mods to try to achieve anything similar to what Biotech does with genetics, gene manipulation, gene harvesting, children, education, and Xenotypes. Not to mention the Sanguophages.

That's fair but now that it's been refunded, I just saw that Biotech still shows up in my mod list. What's that about?

Could you send your Prefs.xml file via Pastebin?

I'll try to as soon as I actually can; I've been playing Rimworld via Remote Play and I don't have the space for it and my mods on my laptop. Where do I find that xml file you need?
