My caravan is starving to death, what do i do?
There is no button for stopping on the tile to go into that tiles map all I have is settle, split and rest??? The settle button is grayed out, I don't want to split my party, and the rest button does absolutely nothing? Every time I have ever pushed the rest button they don't even look for food??? What do i do?

Go as fast as you can to a town (buy provisions) or home. Make sure that your colonists are set to 'eat anything.' They're just hungry for now.. it'll be a day or two 'fore it really starts kickin' in hard.

yeah we way past that. the nearest town is about a day away and my dude starves to death before he gets to the town. Is there a way to set up camp without having a hostile encounter so you can forage for food?
There is the set up camp mod. In future you should bring a good planter with the group or several, and tribals get a bonus to foraging or just bring more food than you need.

in the options you can increase the number of colonies. do that, and your caravan should have a settle option. that will get you to the map tile so you can forage/hunt. you will get events on that map tile as well, so you probably will want to abandon it when you leave.

I already have this situation, (i sent the caravan without be careful about the days of food, they was enough to go, but not for the return also the caravan was much more loaded so i take even more time to get back to base).

My tip : if you have drop pod, use them to send supply to the caravan, anything you have to eat, if better meal (hopefully your caravan are still in range of the drop pod). If paws are down, send one colonist with medical skill and supply and stop the caravan, the colonist should be able to help them).

If you order the caravan to stop they will forage faster.

I tried that, it said 0 food?

It's a multiplier on base forage rates, if your colonists aren't very good growers and/or tribals then resting to get food isn't really going to work. If they do have the foraging ability to feed themselves, it's not an instant process, they need to rest for a while until it "ticks" and they get some amount of food.

I tried to install it, it says its not compatible with version 1.4 or higher.

In the workshop search make sure you check the box on the right that says "1.4" or you'll get old versions of mods. Edit: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1470065926

I would also suggest the Caravan Options mod which allows you to move at night - otherwise caravans are always forced to rest at night even when they're not tired out.

Grab the set up camp mod, it's functionality really should have been in base game by this point. It will allow you to stop the caravan and load up a new map where you can find some food or hunt

From a gameplay point of view it isn't too cheaty as your pawns still have to acquire the food and when they do there's also the possibility your power armour wearing minigun wielding space marine could go on a killing spree because he didn't eat that apple he found at a table

I believe the Donner Party ran in to a similar scenario, and they didn't suffer total losses. It may be worth looking at how they survived.

Just installed this. Don't understand why setting up camp during your caravan trek isn't included with the vanilla game?
