I found that this is a fun way to play. Random drop with re-rolls for mountains and water as they are not valid points to land (they would just die upon landing anyway).
Growing steel?! Those "Vanilla" Expanded mods certainly are... something.

There's more, but those are two of the more popular.
1 - Tame a lot of Muffalos or animals that can carry lots of goods
2 - make a new settlement near your base with colonists good or capable of mining
3 - mine the entire map
4 - make caravans with those Muffalos and bring the ressources back to your main base
5 - when the map run out of ressources and when you brought all the ressources back to your main base, abandon the mining settlement
6 - repeat from step 2 to 5 until u're good to go
