Upgrading walls / doors / storages ??
Hello

Is there a way to easy upgrade walls / doors / storages ( and beds chairs .. ) for example from wood material to stone or metal ?

Without the need of deconstruct the old one and build it new ?

It's just pain to re-build all the base 3 4 5 times because of this. Also losing stuff by deconstructing. And all the storage settings/filters..

Was looking for a mod, but I'm not sure if there is one for this case.

I'm using the vanilla version without DLC.

This really should be in base game, but alas

A very good mod. You'll always start off with wooden walls and replacing them by knocking them down and rebuilding them without the roof collapsing on you is a pain. So this mod makes it so easy.

tbh.. I was not thinking about the roof. I would just place 1x1 walls to stabilize the roof while deconstructing rebuilding.

But the problem is just the fact that there are sooo many storages and walls to upgrade. it cost that much time and clicks. even if you can copy or link the storages to speed things up.. it's just pain from my point of view.

Easier to just remove the roof before you tear down the walls (if you aren't using the mod).

It is, yet I consistently forget anyway. I've had a lot of roofs collapse on my pawns.

Same same, roofs being free and automatically built makes you forget they exist.

When playing unmodded I deconstruct every other wall and rebuild it in the material I want, once that set is finished the remaining walls are then deconstructed and rebuilt. It's more clicks, but less colonist time/effort and no extra resources.

The replace stuff mod is never going to go core because it removes a bunch of intentional side effects of base redesign and upgrading. You don't have to worry about raiders walking through gaps in your wall if you are mid upgrade, you don't have to worry about your freezer thawing out while adding extra coolers or rebuilding the walls, you don't have to worry about roof collapses if you misjudge the gaps during a redesign, and you don't have to spend extra resources or time to work around these side effects intelligently. There are also a few exploits it allows during raids and when dealing with ancient shrines.

Sometimes convenience is more than QoL. Replace Stuff is a great mod, I've used it for years, it's been popular for a long time, but it's clearly outside of intended gameplay mechanics much like Character Editor or Pick up and Haul or other mods that bypass gameplay for the sake of "convenience."

If you don't want to use mods at all just copy one of those base layouts that works from the start and isn't vulnerable to hostiles as you mass deconstruct entire rooms (simply wall everything off).

Otherwise just hope that Tynan has an epiphany and changes the amount of pointless tediousness that this game story simulator needs a couple of DLCs down the line.

There's a mod for Save Storage, Outfit, Crafting, Drug and Operation Settings that's useful if you have to move storage around. Also good for initial setup of a colony, too.

If you dislike wasting resources from deconstructing, one of the Vanilla Ideology Expanded mods I believe adds a precept for increased deconstruction yields. Or you could just use stone blocks since stone is damned near infinite.
I largely mitigate this issue by planning ahead my construction, skipping intermediate upgrades (like going from normal beds to advanced ones from VE, skipping ergonomic beds), retaining old wooden structures as legacy non-critical buildings while building newer stone ones, and selling off old furniture. For wall replacements I just build one tile in front of the old wall and deconstruct the older one from the inside when ready.
