Pale yellow skin gene is called "Banana," Is this okay?

I'm sure Tynan would not have chosen this word on purpose, but "Banana" and "Twinkie" were words that was used to mock or insult other whitewashed Asians.
Just so happened to be, this word "Banana" is used to describe skin color gene...
I'm not sure how relevant this term is nowadays tho, just like twinkie now means something quite different. Because this would be simply chaning a line or two on xml file, I think it would be best to root out any potential problem :O

I was what the "bananas" and "twinkies" used to call a "Fob". We FOBs found that offensive. bananas and twinkies were words we used to fight them back, and our older generations used those words to make fun of the younger generations who are losing their own cultural touch. I believe this is the Asian version of the term "Oreo"(at this point, IDK if you think it's another made-up word or something). As many first and second gen Asian go through(or went through, for IDK how young ones are now) some sort of identity crisis revolving around their culture.

As I was creating a translation of the game, I stumbled upon the word "banana" which was used to create a name for the gene packs(not sure where exactly it is being applied yet) with pale "yellow" skin. Although I presume that it was not acknowledged by the creators of the game, as many of you think is not a problem, I thought it could potentially cause problems for whom did not like the word. so I wanted to bring it to the attention before it does become a problem.

The term was used a lot less frequently than I thought it was because nobody see it as a problem, so I only tried to explain my thoughts.

I'd appreciate you not making wild assumptions about who I am.

Considering that it's quite literally banana yellow, and the xeno skin genes in vanilla are meant to be alien colors and not human shades, I think it's alright. But that's just me. If some of the xeno skin genes were meant to include baseline norms, though, perhaps there'd be a question.

I can certainly see changing the name to err on the side of not offending the players but... Considering Japan, China, and Korea all love the game and we've yet to hear any outcry, it's probably alright.

well, I don't personally see it as a problem, but if people want, they can always find problem in anything! so why leave a chance, when it is a simple fix?

There is no outcries yet, because there is only German and English official language support for the Biotech DLC. thought it would be a nice preventive measure :/

well, I'm bringing out this issue as I am localizing the new DLC into Korean. Just thought that this could potentially be problematic.
Maybe the term we used was very limited to certain part of SoCal..

If you wanna err on the side of caution, you could always pick a different yellow thing for your Korean localization. Maybe something like "sunshine" or "pale ale".

Banana is the name of a very specific color of yellow.

Specific colors have specific names. Banana is the name of a shade of yellow.

First time i am hearing either. You are living in a strange part of the world. Googling either also lets me know that these are slurs for "race traitors", so slurs asian people give asians.

I've literally never heard either of these words used as slurs against Asians. And I've lived my life in the Southeastern US where they've made slinging slurs into a revolting art form. "Twinkie" is the only word I've heard used as an insult against a minority, and that's against gay "femboys". Though many parts of the gay community have tried to reclaim Twink/Twinkie.

I grew up in Los Angeles where Koreans used to call others those words and reject them, and heard about use of those words from my parent generations. I genuinely brought up my personal concerns regarding my experience.

well, if I was that offended, I think I would've chosen stronger and more aggressive words and demanded it to be taken down. But there was literally news regarding use of this word on Asian media before, and there are a lot of nationalistic hornet's nest.
