Thrumbos worth it for Rancher?
Disregarding their far-too-low tame chance, are Thrumbos worth it for the Rancher meme?

I played like 10-15 hours on one save and am in year 3, so even if I started with a breeding pair the offspring would still be a juvenile

I do love Anima Thrumbo's, from that anima animal mod, but they sure don't grow fast.
I never 'ranched' regular Thrumbos, but I would tame them if i could, they made excellent combat pets.

I ranched thrumbos before ideology. Even juvenile thrumbos are insanely buff, but if you are looking to get the most out of the ranching meme and its precepts, i would stick to elephants or megasloths.

Based on the replies, I guess so. Was kinda hoping they would be worth it. Still gonna try to get a pair and let their population grow. Who knows, maybe it will be worth it in the long run.

the only reason to ranche them is for their hide.

place 1 in both, sharp and blunt armor factor (1.6 times as good as second place for sharp and 1,5 times as good fpr blunt place 2), 2nd best in insulation cold (guinea pigs are best here, 1,12 times as good as thumb), but on heat, its again the best of all (same place as camelhide), best max HP factor and by faaaaaar, the highest market value and beaty factor....

but with such a low growth rate, and most likly similar long pregnancy time, it would take years of ingame time to get them to a critical mass to massproduce clothings out of that fur

When it comes to realistic ranching of thrumbos, you're looking at the type of the game that will go on for several in-game decades. The sort of the game you keep going back to every few weeks or months just to see how much further you can go with it.

With 1.3 their gestation time dropped from 60 days to 20... Might actually be feasible now, if you got some patience. Takes 4 years to grow up, but until the first baby became mature youll already look at 11 more young thrumbos waiting to grow up. Also they eat trees, so they dont really compete with other grazers. Hmmm, might just start a rancher colony after my current run :D

I have also breed Thrumbos in the past, but as the others say it's way to slow, and so the Thrumbos I got felt to precious to slaughter, and they don't produce any thing like wool or milk.

Another problem in 1.3 is that they aren't part of the ranching system like the farm animals, so your colonists won't take them to the pens, and so they just wander about your base unless you define an area for them. They also can't be counted for food use in the pens.

No the best thing Imo is horses, they breed fairly fast, and you can use them as transport, or just sell the off for good profit.

It's easy to set up an area for non-pen animals, so that's not a prob. They chill in the same pen as the megasloths, muffalo, horses, alpaca, sheep.... pretty much everything but chickens.

+1 for horses. I use them to caravan trading goods and sell the excess horses along with the cargo

Thrumbos eat a lot too. And animal filth... don't let fences hold them... Even happy, they don't always listen to zones.

Best to just tame and slaughter them.

Yea I know, and I have 3 Thrumbos in my base now, the point was that they weren't meant to be farmed, but we can of course try anyway. :lunar2019coolpig: [/quote]Damn straight! Gonna be the most infamous thrumbo rancher in the Rim!

Are you using the mod that gives you the chance to tame and train Anima Thrumbos, now those are some impressive creatures to ranch.

Good luck :spaz2insane: have fun
