Repairing items?
Last Q for the day :)

I got a plasma sword persona thing from a quest, I'm attached to it... but it's at 50% hp now! Is there any way to fix these eventually? Or do they all just break?

There is no way to repair weapons or armor in vanilla, you'd need to use a mod.

Item durability does not affect its usefulness. Your plasma sword does the same damage at 1% as 100%. But if you are mildly OCD like me, 99% durability offends your sensibilities lol

Weapons only deteriorate when left on the ground outside. While equipped their health doesn't change and they will last forever. Just make sure you don't drop that weapon on the ground too much, being at 50% will not be an issue, you can still make it last and as mentioned durability has no effect on gear stats.

The sword dropped to 50/100 during combat against a scyther. Can 100% verify that much.

Bummer about the repair stuff, thanks for the mod links :)

That just doesn't happen, unless there is some rare persona effect not listed on the wiki that causes durability damage on use. I got a persona plasma sword very early on in my current game, it's been 5 years since I had it, the wielder has 126 kills, it's still at 100/100 because she's never dropped it. Most of my colonist's weapons are still at 100% durability, a few are at 97% either because they were looted from the ground after a battle, or the colonist is downed a lot.

Not sure what to tell you. My armor is getting broken in fights as well. Honestly this sounds pretty reasonable to me?

Yeah, combat drastically reduce apparel usage life (like IRL anything used extensively in the field - especially in combat conditions)

armor degrades over time when worn and is also affected by damage, weapons on the other hand dont get damaged in combat, and also dont lose durability when worn

Apparel yes, weapons no. It would make some sense if weapons also lost durability when used, but they simply don't, who knows why, but it's always been the case. My guess is so you don't suddenly find your colonists unarmed in combat and unable to defend themselves at all from a raid. You can still mount a defense without armor, but if your weapons broke punching a raid to death generally doesn't work.

I am 100% positive equipped weapons do not lose durability. You can google it if you want to find more people saying the same thing.

The only other explanation I can think of is that something set of a chain reaction of explosions after my guy was downed - could a weapon be caught in the blast and take damage? Would a mortar or other explosive do that?

Yes, as any explosion deal damage to all entities inside blast radius - icluding any item (like dropped weapon) on ground

That's probably it then. There was something next to a turret that went kaboom when I was fighting a cluster that dropped in on me.

Mystery solved.

GD mechanoids.

How dare you, i have spent YEARS arbitarily avoiding 99% guns and swords, a year ago i would've prefered a 100% bolt action to a 99% assault rifle.

If it actually says 100%, then it's not fully 100%, because at 100% health there is no % indication (had that happen once or twice). So it's probably at 99.99% durability and it's rounded up.
Does that trigger more?
