How to avoid short circuiting
Well, my base burned down because of a circuit malfunction in the night. Apart from the obvious fact I built my base out of wood, how is this avoidable? It was the fourth time in 2 hours, and literally midway during the fire it happened again haha. Is this just random chance? Is stone walls the only way to avoid it?

Ah, I think you mean that "bzzt" event; from what I've heard, it tends to happen due to you having full batteries, if your batteries are always full it may be good to get more power drain or even uninstall them as a source of emergency power for other things should the need arise. Again, this is only what I've heard from other players and more experienced ones than I, so try it for yourself and see if it really works.

If it happened several times in a row, you probably left batteries unroofed in the rain. Batteries tend to blow up repeatedly when exposed to rain, causing several of the same event in a short amount of time. Keep your batteries roofed next time. If it wasn't caused by short-circuiting batteries, then you've got some serious bad luck since the "Zzzzt...." event doesn't happen too frequently. You can put firefoam poppers in flammabe areas that are likely to catch on fire easily.

Do not use batteries (move to geothermal ASAP). Or use fuses

Keep the batteries in the freazer

the size explosion is based on the power stored on the network. A simpler vanilla solution is to not make one big net work. but make a couple of smaler ones with just one or two batteries. if one of them explodes or fusses out your base will not be blown to piecis.

next would be uninstalling full bateries to a save place for later use or breaking up separate batterie sets (for the crucial freezer) with a switch

The yellow Zzzt event is triggerable by having a battery with >1 power in it with a connected power line.
Red Zzzt's as triggered by certain electronics(batteries, sunlamps, cremetoriums, ect.) being unroofed in the rain.

That dosn't do anything.
The overhear mechanic on batteries isn't triggered till over ~150C.

In your scenario before starting the game, disable Short Circuits. Then you can have large redundant power networks with tons of power in reserve for when you need it for other events. No need to constantly uninstall/reinstall batteries or flip switches to deal with such a basic wiring problem like a short. These people can build a spaceship out of scrap, I think they are smart enough to build fuses into their batteries and devices. IMO. This event bothers me more than it should, ignore my rant.

You're not the only one, don't worry, lol.

Ok so I gathered froim this that I should
1) build separate networks
2) use firefoam
& 3) dont use too many batteries
thanks guys!

4) TURN OFF THE GODAMN EVENT! :)

no offense, I just hate the mechanic and only playing in personally set up games without that annoying sh*t.

If you are using batteries, have them in a separate room with stone walls etc, and fire foam in the middle walkway. That way you wont have a room that is several hundred degrees hot if the batteries explode, and a burnt down base.

If a wire get set on fire, I just micromanage the settlers who are sleeping to put it out. Rather a grumpy settler then a burnt down base.
